Wondering if you can remove a rune from an armor piece or weapon in The Forge Roblox experience? Runes are one of the most important aspects of your gear in The Forge. They give your weapons, armor, and pickaxes passive traits that can make or break your build. As you naturally progress, you’ll replace your older gear one by one, and many of those items will still have runes attached. Here’s how to get them back.
Can You Remove a Rune From Weapons & Armor in The Froge?
Yes, you can remove runes from equipment in The Forge. Once you add a rune to a piece of gear, it isn’t permanently attached. You can remove it just as easily as you added it to your weapons, armor, or pickaxes. In fact, the process is almost identical. Here’s how to do it.
How to Remove Runes
- Head to the RuneMaker NPC vendor.
- Press E to interact with him.
- Select the dialogue option "Yes, I am here to craft some runes."
- In the Select Equipment screen, find the piece of gear you want a rune removed from, then click Select.
- A new window will open. Click on the equipped rune you want to remove (a small Rune icon in the rune slot of a weapon, armor piece, or pickaxe).
- You’ll see that the rune appears on the right side of the screen.
- Press the Detach button to remove the rune.
- A confirmation window will appear, asking whether you’re sure you want to remove that Rune and showing the gold cost.
- Press YES to confirm your choice, or NO if you’ve changed your mind.
- If you press YES, the rune will be returned to your stash, ready to be attached to a new piece of gear.

How Much Does It Cost to Detach a Rune?
As we’ve stated, removing runes from weapons, armor, and pickaxes is not free - it will cost you some gold. The price of detaching a rune depends on several factors: the type of rune, the quality of the gear, the enhancement level of the weapon or armor piece, and more. For example, detaching a Miner Shard from a Platinum Pickaxe will cost around 1,313 gold, while removing the Ward Patch rune from Medium Leggings +3 costs only 132 gold.
As you can see, there are no concrete rules; instead, the game’s internal math determines the cost. Always double-check the price of extracting a rune so you can gauge whether it’s worth doing, or if it’s better to just sell the gear with the rune still attached (which will usually earn you more gold). Gold is essential in The Forge, so always think carefully about how you spend it, as every part of the progression system is tied to some kind of gold cost.
