Kraken is one of the first NPCs that you will encounter in Abyss, and the first questline you will have to complete. Large tentacles protruding from the ground, this mythical being gives you the know-how of the game, along with several quests to set you up for your journey. However, beginners might face some challenges when trying to please the Kraken by completing his quests. This brief guide takes you through all the Kraken quests in Abyss and helps you complete them swiftly.
Abyss Kraken's Tutorial Quest Full Guide
Kraken is the NPC who gives the tutorial quests in Abyss, allowing you to familiarize yourself with the basic features and gameplay mechanics. This happens automatically when you launch the game and watch the short cutscene. There are a total of three tutorial quests that you must complete to start the free roam mode in Abyss.
First Abyss Tutorial Quest
The first tutorial quest requires you to catch a total of three fish in the game. You can easily do so by following these instructions:
- Open your inventory and equip the gun.
- Go towards the edge of the dome and enter the water.
- Follow the white marker to reach the first fish.
- Aim your gun.
- Click the left-mouse button to fire. This will start the fishing minigame.
- Keep clicking the mouse button or the space bar to keep the fish icon in the larger bar.
- Wait for the thinner bar to fill completely.
Once this is done, you'll have caught your first fish. Now, follow the same steps to catch two more fish and head back to the Kraken.
The Second Abyss Tutorial Quest
After you catch all three fish, you'll be tasked with selling them. To complete this step, simply walk back to the Kraken and interact with him. This will complete the second tutorial quest.
The Third Abyss Tutorial Quest
The third quest requires you to purchase new gear. There are two pieces of gear in the game: gunS and tubes. To purchase a new tube, head over to the Tubes shop near the Kraken and purchase the marked tube. Next, head over to the Harpoon shop to get yourself a new gun. Lastly, visit the Kraken to complete the quest and receive the next one.
The Fourth Abyss Tutorial Quest
The fourth quest tells you how to obtain a new race in the Abyss. This can be done by clicking the Races icon at the very top of the screen. Next, click the Reroll icon at the bottom to try out your luck. You will need Star Shards to complete each spin.
How to Complete Kraken's First Quest in Abyss - First Breath
To start the Kraken's first quest, called the First Breath, go near the NPC and interact with him. Select the [Quest] Do you have any quests for me? option. This will prompt the Kraken to give you the very first quest. To complete this quest, you must catch the following fish in Abyss:
- 1x Clownfish
- 2x Blue Tang
- 2x Tang
To get your hands on these fish, equip your gun and head into the open waters. Here, you must look for these specific fish and complete the fishing minigame to catch them. Fortunately, you won't need to go very far since the area is brimming with these beginner fish. Once you catch them, head back to the Kraken, talk to him, and receive your rewards. You will obtain the following things for completing Quest 1:
- $150
- 5 Star Shards
How to Complete Kraken's Second Quest in Abyss - Spines and Steel
You can start the second Kraken quest by talking to the NPC and selecting the first dialog option. The Kraken now asks you to complete the following tasks:
- Purchase the Beginner's Gun
- Catch 1x Pufferfish
- Catch 3x Clownfish
To get the Beginner's Gun, head over to the Harpoon Shop and check out the blue gun in the wooden box outside. This weapon will cost you $350, which you should already have by this time. Now, equip the weapon and head out into the water. Pufferfish are yellow fish that will immediately inflate when you get near them.
They also start damaging you if you get too close, so I recommend maintaining your distance. Note that the Pufferfish can be slightly challenging to catch since the fish icon in its minigame jumps erratically. Once you have 1 Pufferfish and 3 Clownfish, head back to the Kraken to complete his quest. You get the following rewards for completing Quest 2:

- 5 Star Shards
- 1x Small Oxygen Tank
How to Complete the Kraken Quest 3 in Abyss: Crack that Rock
The third Kraken quest can be started similarly to the previous ones. The NPC asks you to complete the following tasks:
- Purchase a Normal Tube
- Catch x1 Salmon
- Catch x2 Pufferfish
- Find 1x Geode
- Crack x1 Geode
How to Crack the Geode
To crack a Geode, look for the Virelia [Artefact] NPC on the map. Her shop has a purple aura surrounding it, making it easy to spot. Simply go to her, interact with her, and select the Yes [Open Artefact] option. This will pop open a new window where you can select the Geode you wish to crack. Each Geode has a different sum of money and time that it requires to crack.
You will receive the following rewards for completing Quest 3:
- $600
- 10x Star Shards
- 3x Small Oxygen Pods
- x1 Speed Potion
How to Complete the Fourth Kraken Quest in Abyss: Risk and Fortune
The fourth quest is where things start getting challenging. The Kraken will task you with the following things to complete:
- Purchase the Advanced Gun
- Catch x1 Lionfish
- Catch x3 Salmon
- Catch x2 Pufferfish
To get the Advanced Gun, visit the Harpoon shop and check out the gun placed underneath the tree. This weapon costs $1,050, requiring you to catch and sell a lot of fish to gather the required sum. Once you have the cash, purchase the gun and head out into the water. The Lionfish will be troublesome to catch since it attacks when you get near it. Hence, maintain some distance and hook it with your gun.
You will get the following rewards for completing this quest:
- $850
- x10 Star Shards
- x2 Mossy Geodes
- x1 Basic Oxygen Pod
How to Complete Kraken Quest 5 in Abyss: The Forgotten Gate
The fifth Kraken quest requires you to catch some dangerous fish and explore the map a bit. You must get the following things to get the favour of the Kraken:
- Find x3 tier-1 Treasure Chests
- Catch x2 Mahi Mahi
- Catch x4 Lionfish
- Crack x2 Geodes
While two of the Treasure Chests are easy to find (on top of a rock beside the harpoon shop and behind one of the NPC shops), the last one will require you to step outside of your bubble, but luckily there is a bunch of these Chests lying around. You can check the Minimap and it will show you icons of Chests near you.
You will get the following rewards for completing this quest:
- $1,150
- x20 Star Shards
- x3 Mossy Geodes
- x1 Forgotten Key
How to Complete Kraken Quest 6: Path to the Second Isle
To complete the sixth quest, you must get your hands on the following things:
- Find x5 tier-1 Treasure Chests
- Purchase the Pufferfish Tube
- Catch x1 Barracuda
- Catch x3 Mahi Mahi
- Crack x3 Geodes
The Pufferfish Tube costs a whopping $2,850 and can be purchased from the Tubes shop. Again, you must explore the map to find the remaining Treasure Chests. Note that the other two chests are in the water so you'll need to use the Tube to reach them. Once you've completed all the tasks, head back and talk to the Kraken.
