The Grade system in Cursed Gear determines the overall strength and progression level of your character. As you level up and win exams, you move through increasingly powerful ranks that improve stat scaling and allow access to stronger cybernetic builds. So, to help you understand how grades work and how to progress efficiently and climb the ranks faster, here's a complete guide with everything you need to know.
Grades Explained in Cursed Gear
Grades represent your combat ranking and overall progression in Cursed Gear. Each Grade promotion provides powerful buffs that improve stat scaling and increase the amount of Cybernetic Load a character can equip.
Cybernetic Load determines how many cybernetic upgrades and modifications you can install on your character. Higher grades, therefore, allow more advanced builds and stronger combat performance. After reaching Grade 4, progression changes from simple leveling to competitive promotion through Grade Exams.
These exams occur every 30 minutes and require players to win multiple PvP matches to advance. Grades are tied to the Heian Rating (HR) system, which functions as the PvP ranking ladder. You gain HR by defeating other players and lose HR when defeated.

How To Increase Grade in Cursed Gear
The first grade upgrade occurs automatically once you reach Level 25, which grants Grade 4. After this point, promotions require passing Grade Exams. Grade Exams are competitive PvP events that occur every 30 minutes.
During the event, eight players are matched together and fight in a tournament-style series of one-on-one battles. Only the final two players remaining in the bracket earn promotion to the next grade. These exams are separated into level brackets that increase in intervals of 50 levels.
Do note that losing exams can briefly delay your progress. If you repeatedly fail multiple exams, you can even be demoted from your current grade. There are also cooldown timers for exams. Winning an exam applies a one-hour cooldown before the next attempt, while losing applies a shorter fifteen-minute cooldown.
