Because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer relies on a steady internet connection, that unfortunately also means that it comes with the odd error from time to time, whether it's on the player's end or there's a problem server-side. Here's how to fix MW2 error code 2020.
How to fix MW2 error code 2020
If you've been playing Ranked recently and encountered an error, it was most likely error code 2020. The pesky issue has been occurring more frequently as of late, preventing players from matchmaking with others and joining matches.

Though this is a server-side issue, some have reported success by trying out the following possible solutions:
- Restart your system—This is an obvious one, but shutting down your system and rebooting the game may work. Sometimes, all it needs is a refresh.
- Reboot your internet router—If restarting your system doesn't work, try rebooting your internet router to reset the connection.
- Start multiplayer manually (PS5 only)—If you're playing on PlayStation 5, open multiplayer manually via the MW2 main menu instead of booting it via the multiplayer card on the PS5 home screen.
If none of the above works, open a support ticket with Activision via the official Modern Warfare II support page. Make sure to list what fixes you've already tried to help them narrow down the issue quicker.
How to check MW2 server status
If you can't connect to MWII and are unsure whether it's on your end or server-side, it's a good idea to check the MW2 server status. To do so, head to Activision's Online Services page, where you can view the status of both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.
