Even though Overwatch 2 can be loads of fun, it can be frustrating trying to get online sometimes. Players will get the occasional error code, and sometimes find themselves staring at the screen saying "Connecting" for a long time. If this happens, there are definitely some things players can try to get online.
How to fix Overwatch 2 when stuck on "Connecting" message
Before restarting their PC or anything like that, there is something every Overwatch 2 player should do first when they are stuck on a connecting screen: always check the bottom left corner. If the Overwatch 2 server is going through a scheduled maintenance, it will notify players on the connecting screen. If that's why gamers can't get online, it's best to just wait for the maintenance to finish.
Otherwise, there are several actions players can take to try and get online:
- Check the internet connection. Overwatch 2 really needs a solid connection to run smoothly; sometimes that means having to restart a router.
- Check the server status. There are many ways of doing this: Overwatch Twitter gives frequent updates on the status of the server; players can also look at the Known Issues page on the Overwatch forum for updates.
- Update to the latest version of the game. Overwatch 2 updates can sometimes come quickly, whether it's to nerf a character or to introduce a new map. A file of Overwatch 2 that isn't updated won't run correctly.
- Make sure the console has the correct date and time. This will also affect the running of Overwatch 2.
- Restart the console or PC. Doing this might also cause new updates to pop up.
