Baldur’s Gate 3 – Best Feats for Minsc in BG3

Boo is proud of his Ranger buddy.

In Baldur's Gate 3, you can recruit various companions to join your team, one of which is Minsc— a Ranger class ally. You'll get to select a few feats while progressing with this companion; naturally, you need to know the best ones to select to make him more versatile and maximize his damage output, so here are the best feats for Minsc in BG3.

Minsc is a Ranger with immense ranged-damage capabilities and is brilliant for stealth situations. I recommend progressing with this companion as a Ranger without changing or adding different classes. Minsc is proficient with simple and martial weapons, so you can always use a great Longbow like Gontr Mael with him.

Minsc's chosen Subclass is Hunter, but you can experiment with Gloom Stalker and Beast Master. I suggest going ahead with Gloom Stalker as this gives you certain features like Dread Ambusher and Superior Darkvision. Feats are unlocked at levels four, eight, and 12; the best choices can be found below.

FeatDescription
Ability Improvement "You increase one Ability by +2 or two Abilities by +1."
Sharpshooter"Your Ranged Weapon attacks do not get penalties from High Ground Rules.
Ranged Weapon attacks with weapons you are proficient with have a -5 penalty to their attack rolls, but deal an additional 10 damage."
Crossbow Expert"When you make crossbow attacks within melee range, the Attack Rolls do not have a disadvantage.
Your piercing shot also inflicts Gaping Wounds for twice as long."
Lucky"You gain 3 Lucky Points, which you can use to gain Advantage on Attack Rolls, Ability Checks, or Saving Throws, or to make an enemy reroll their Attack Rolls."
Mobile"Your movement speed increases and difficult terrain doesn't slow you down when you dash. If you move after making a melee attack, you don't provoke opportunity attacks from your target."
Tough"Your hit point maximum increases by 2 for every level you have gained."

Ability Improvement is one of the best feats to select, as you can quickly level up the ability of your choice to +20. I recommend quickly reaching +20 Dexterity with Minsc to make him a powerful Ranger.

Sharpshooter and Crossbow Expert are more inclined towards ranged damage, which works perfectly for Minsc. Sharpshooter allows you to perform ranged attacks without incurring a penalty from the High Ground Rules penalty. In a similar vein, Crossbow Expert allows you to deal damage at melee range without having a disadvantage on the attack rolls. Additionally, the piercing shot attack inflicts Gaping Wounds status for two times longer than usual.

Mobile is one of the finest feats you can select for Minsc as it allows him to move around freely, which is something you'll do quite often with him. With this feat, Minsc gets a slight increase in movement speed and can evade Opportunity Attacks while moving away from enemies. He can also evade the effects of a difficult terrain while dashing.

The Tough feat is a personal favorite as it increases Minsc's hit points by two for every level he gains. While you won't play with Minsc on the frontlines like Lae'zel or Karlach, this feat makes him more durable. On the other hand, Lucky is a brilliant feat that gives Minsc advantages on Saving Throws, Attack Rolls, and Ability Checks. Use it carefully in combat to always have the upper hand against your enemies.
