They may not be the most famous Water types from the Kanto region, but Poliwag and its evolutions are still beloved members of the Pokémon franchise. They get a sleep move (Hypnosis), a couple of great setup moves (Belly Drum, Bulk Up), and great coverage between Water and Fighting. Any trainer who catches a Poliwag with a good nature will have a powerhouse on their hands.
Which are the best natures for Poliwag, Poliwhirl, and Poliwrath in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?
The best natures for Poliwag, Poliwhirl, and Poliwrath in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are as follows:
- Adamant (+ Attack, - Sp. Atk)
- Careful (+ Sp. Def, - Sp. Atk)
- Jolly (+ Speed, - Sp. Atk)
When Poliwag finally evolves into Poliwrath, it will have decent stats. There is nothing Poliwrath excels at in particular, but it still is a decently fast, bulky physical attacker. At 70 base speed, it won't outspeed many threats, but the Jolly nature will allow it to get the jump on things like max-speed Heatran and Mandibuzz.
Poliwrath often uses bulky sets, however, which call for the Adamant nature. Typically, Poliwrath likes to run max HP and max Attack, and preferably the move Bulk Up. This way, it can take incoming attacks while bulking up and dishing out some serious damage.

Another way to do this would be to use the Careful nature and run max HP along with some Special Defense. If Poliwrath can survive strong Boombursts and Giga Drains, it allows for the Bulk Up set to work against a greater range of threats.
How to choose natures in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Selecting a nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet comes down to figuring out what the Pokémon is best at. Pokémon either serve as walls that stall out threats, sweepers that try to outspeed opponents, or wall breakers that punch holes in defensive cores.
Pokemon like Poliwrath that hit the middle-speed tier tend to prefer natures like Adamant to help their wallbreaking. Faster Pokemon like Chien Pao and Roaring Moon prefer Speed-boosting natures.
