Best Nature for Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

From super cute to super elegant, this Pokémon has it all!

If you were lucky enough to hatch or receive a Piplup from The Teal Mask DLC, congratulations! You now own one of my favorite Pokémon in the franchise. Piplup has a unique line of Pokémon that can excel in both attack and defense, depending on how you want to build them. That said, here are the natures you should be looking at.

Best natures for Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The best natures for Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon are the following:

  • Modest (+Sp. Attack, -Attack)
  • Bold (+Defense, -Attack)

Dazzling and Graceful, Empoleon is excellent at showing off the most magical of moves… by which I mean it learns a lot of special attacks! As a result, most trainers like their Piplups Modest. With a pretty beefy Sp. Defense, however, Prinplup and Empoleon can also benefit from a Bold nature, which can round up its shields, allowing it to take most hits in PvP and more difficult content.

How to choose the best nature in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Natures determine which attack gets boosted by 10% and which one loses the same amount of growth. And while there are natures that don’t boost/stunt growth (like Hardy), it’s always good practice to opt for one that does. Look at your Pokémon’s base stats and think about how you’re going to use them in battle.
