Best nature for Quagsire in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Been countering Dragonite since 1998.

One of the easiest answers to physical offense in all of Pokémon is Quagsire. It may not look like it, but thanks to its 95 HP and 85 Defense, Quagsire can sit in front of plenty of physical threats and not worry about it. Quagsire needs the right nature to really wall out opposing offense, though, so here are the natures Scarlet & Violet trainers should keep an eye out for.

Which are the best natures for Quagsire in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

The best natures for Quagsire in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are as follows:

  • Impish (+ Defense, - Sp. Atk)
  • Careful (+ Sp. Def, - Sp. Atk)

More often than not, Quagsire wants that Impish nature. Quagsire can get the Unaware ability, which makes it ignore opposing boosts. So, add that with Impish, and Quagsire can defend against things like Swords Dance Chien Pao and Dragon Dance Dragapult easily.

The Careful nature is particularly there for Quagsire if it's running a Curse set. Since Curse already boosts physical Defense, it's better for Quagsire to run a Special Defense nature, covering him against both types of Attacks.

While a Curse set can be funny to pull off, I recommend using Impish nature on Quagsire. Once the enemy is poisoned with Toxic, Quagsire can afford to chip away with small moves like Ice Punch or weak Earthquakes and still end up winning lots of match ups.

How to choose natures in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

To choose a nature, the trainer really needs to figure out what the Pokémon is trying to do first. Often, it's better to decide on the moves for a Pokémon before choosing a nature. Defensive Pokémon like Quagsire tend to prefer the defensive natures since they can use things like Toxic, Stealth Rocks, and chip damage to threaten the opponent.
