All Shiny Locked Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask DLC

Hopefully trainers got shiny Sinnoh starters from BDSP.

The Teal Mask DLC released new legendaries which, sadly, means some of these Pokémon are going to be shiny locked. Given how many older Pokémon made a return in the Teal Mask DLC, shiny hunters are definitely going to be excited to add to their collection. Not every Pokémon can be shiny, though, so here are the ones to steer clear of.

Which Pokémon are Shiny Locked in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask DLC?

A little less than a dozen Pokémon are shiny locked in the Teal Mask DLC. The legendaries, as one might imagine, are all shiny locked. There are a few others that can't be shiny either, though. Here is the full list:

  • Ogerpon
  • Okidogi
  • Fezandipiti
  • Munkidori
  • Bloodmoon Ursaluna
  • Piplup
  • Turtwig
  • Chimchar
  • Hisuian Growlithe

What does "shiny locked" mean in Pokémon?

When a Pokémon is shiny locked, it means the player cannot obtain the shiny version of that Pokémon through playing the game. All of these Pokémon do have shiny versions which players can see online, they just won't be able to catch them.

Most of the time, legendary Pokémon and static encounters are shiny locked. Bloodmoon Ursaluna, for example, can only be encountered through Pippin's side quest. If Bloodmoon Ursaluna were a normal encounter that trainers could find in the wild, then it might have a chance of being shiny.

The Sinnoh starters (Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup) are shiny locked because they can only be acquired through an Egg. You can get this egg only after completing the Kitakami Pokedex. To do this, talk to Jacq, who can be found at the other end of the bridge that leads to Reveler's Road. He will give you an egg with one of the Sinnoh starters inside; just keep in mind that they'll never be shiny.
