Chapter 5 of Sovereign Syndicate begins with Clara outside of the Palladium, right after she agreed to fetch the contraceptive pills for Beatrix. Although the task seems simple at first, this guide explains some things you may have missed along the way.
Where are Beatrix's pills in Sovereign Syndicate?
After agreeing to help Beatrix at the end of Chapter 2, Clara's main task is to fetch the pills. However, if you visit Nandi's shop while you are at Sorris Square she will give some peanut candies for Beatrix, which you can also have Clara eat to gain 5 Hope.
While you are at it, go to Pavel's rat shop at the alley of Sorris Square and get the French Candies for Zora. You can deliver those to her to gain +10 Hope or give them to Clara for the same effect plus an increase of 1 Phlegm (Tact).
When you visit the Apothecary Shop, Gordon Grey will react strangely when you ask him for the contraceptive pills. He will go into the back of the shop and have you wait for a long while, which leads Clara to think he is calling the police.
If you choose to stay put regardless and wait, Gordon will come back with a substitute medicine because he ran out of the one you've asked for. This is the right, or good-aligned decision. However, if instead you decide to poke around in the backroom, and stay in spite of the tipped over bottle and the second thoughts Clara may have, you will be able to grab some loot:
- A bottle of Old Lace Perfume, which increases Black Bile humour (Intellect) by 5.
- Juniper Tobacco, which Clara suspects could be used as a replacement of the medicine.
- Dr Nightcap's Liquid Laudanum, which provides +5 Blood to increase your Grace.
What to do if Madam Zora won't accept the medicine in Sovereign Syndicate
If you leave the shop with only these items, you can confirm with Nandi that the Juniper Tobacco could be drank in a tea for the same contraceptive purpose. However, this will not finish the quest.
When I went back to Madam Zora at the Red Velvet, the game didn't acknowledge the quest as completed. Zora and Beatrix will both urge you to get the pills as if the Juniper Tobacco can't be used as an alternative.
If this happens to you, you just have to come back to the apothecary shop and interact with the Front Desk. Then, Gordon will come back from the back room and give you the actual pills; those are the only ones that could be used to end the task.
