Last Epoch Rogue Build and Leveling Guide – Best Skills, Subclasses, & more!

Last Epoch's rendition of the Rogue class brings me back to the good ol' days when dual-wielding assassins were one of the coolest classes in any MMORPG or ARPG. In this article, I'll provide a detailed guide on how to build and level a Rogue character from scratch in the Last Epoch.

How to Level as Rogue in Last Epoch

If you've already built your Rogue character in a certain way, do not respec your points until you hit level 20. Anything is viable in the early levels and even in the end-game. It's only a matter of min-maxing your builds to get the most out of your class.

Best Rogue Passive Skills for Leveling - Last Epoch

  • Swift Assassin (8/8) - Swift Assassin will be your main go-to skill in the early levels. This passive skill increases your attack speed and physical damage, allowing you to push enemies back with your heavy-hitting attacks.
  • Guile (1/8) - Guile provides an early-level dodge rating increase, allowing your character to negate attacks from enemies.
  • Evasion (1/5) - Since the Rogue is a mobility class, you're expected to move around the battlefield often while chipping off the enemy's health. The effect of Evasion decreases incoming damage by -4% and increases your dodge rating by 5%. It's definitely a must-have skill at an early level.
  • Dodge and Parry (5/5) - Dodge and Parry is the most important skill post-level 10, as it allows you to soak up a lot of damage due to its effect, Glancing Blow. It also increases your dodge rating by 30, so you'll be able to stand and take fights head-on with your Rouge.
  • Agility (5/5) - Agility allows your Rogue character to proc (i.e. a chance to trigger) Haste on-hit, which gives your character a movement speed boost. At the max level, your Haste on-hit chance is 25%, meaning one out of four of your attacks will grant you Haste.

Best Rogue Skill Specializations for Leveling - Last Epoch

Rogue has some amazing early-game skills to combat the character's squishy nature. Here are three skills I recommend you specialize in the early game.

Flurry

Flurry is an amazing skill in the early game and is one of your bread-and-butter skills, whether you're using a bow, dagger, or sword. I recommend going for these passive skills:

  • Alacrity (3/3)
  • Blood Revelry (2/2)
  • Second Wind (1/3)
  • Sap Willpower (1/2)
  • Boundless Blows (1/1)

The combination of these passive skills gives you a massive sustain of health and mana. Getting Boundless Blows turns Flurry into a channeling skill instead, which is amazing if you're a marksman in your party. Boundless Blows also proves useful in single-target melee engagements like boss fights, as it completely shreds the boss's HP.

Shift

Shift is your main mobility option as a Rogue, and your Shift build highly depends on what mastery you'll take once you get to level 20. But for starters, here are the passive skills I recommend:

  • Velocity (3/3)
  • Momentum (2/3)
  • Swift Recovery (3/4)

Shift's build is flexible, but these are the main skills I focused on in my playthrough, as I wasn't sure of the mastery I was going for. With these passive skills, I was able to weave in and out of tight situations whenever I chose to do so, as Shift's mana cost is basically non-existent. You can respect Shift's passive skills once you've decided if you're going to be a Bladedancer, Marksman, or Falconer.

Decoy

Decoy is an optional skill you can specialize in if you're finding it hard to deal with hordes of enemies in the early game. Since I went for the Bladedancer mastery, I immediately respec Decoy in place of Umbral Blades. Nevertheless, Decoy is still a very useful crowd control skill that deals massive damage in the early game. Here are the passives I recommend you level up:

  • Boom (3/5)
  • Excessive Explosive (2/5)
  • Efficient Construction (2/3)
  • Sonic Detonation (1/3)

These passive skills helped me a lot in the early game, as I was able to draw away enemies surrounding me and take them all out at once. The Sonic Detonation inflicts Frailty and Armor Shred, which is very helpful if you're dealing with powerful enemies such as mini-bosses during a fight.

How to Play Rogue in Last Epoch

Rogue's playstyle in the early game will cycle through the three skills above Flurry, Shift, and Decoy. If you chose to be a melee Rogue, then you'll have to fight up close with Flurry. The ideal way to do this is to use Shift to close in on an enemy, set up a Decoy, and use Flurry while the enemies are busy throwing hands with your dummy.

On the other hand, if you want to use a bow for the early game, you'll need to keep your distance from your enemies. To do this, use Flurry first, and once the enemies are near your character, use Decoy, then Shift to keep them away.

If you're battling a boss, I recommend spamming Acid Flasks until you get six stacks of Poison and Armor Reduction. Afterward, do the usual Shift-Flurry-Decoy or Flurry-Decoy-Shift cycle until you defeat the boss.

Best Items and Affixes for Rogue in Last Epoch

For the early game, Item Affixes don't matter as much. But if you want to have the best chance of survival and finish off enemies quickly, it's vital you look after these important affixes:

Although you'd likely find equipment with these specific affixes on boss drops or chests, this table still provides a decent outline of what you want on your armor and weapons once you start diving into forging.

On the contrary, if you don't understand forging and affixes yet, you should look out for these unique items:

  • Fulgurite Shard - This late-game dagger provides +43 melee damage, +4% critical strike chance, and (20-80%) increased physical damage. The Fulgurite Shard will surely deal a lot of damage, especially if you have the Bladedancer mastery. You can target farm the item during the Reign of Dragons quest.
  • Shadow String - The Shadow String gives the player a solid +18 bow damage and (2-3%) critical strike chance, making it viable for a Marksman build. You can farm this item during Fall of the Outcasts.
  • Gambit of an Erased Rogue - The Gambit of an Erased Rogue increases the user's critical strike chance by 16-28%. It also has a 1/6 chance of taking 15-25% less damage per active shadow, making it ideal for a Bladedancer build. You can farm this item in The Last Ruin quest.

What Rogue Mastery should you pick in Last Epoch?

Rouge has three masteries to choose from: Bladedancer, Marksman, and Falconer. All of these masteries have unique yet familiar playstyles. Here's a short rundown of what each mastery specializes in.

  • Bladedancer: Bladedancers rely on Shadows and daggers to inflict as much physical damage as possible on enemies. Their playstyle revolves around setting up their shadows and using synchronized attacks to rain down multiple blades across the battlefield.
  • Marksman: Marksman uses their bow and quiver to decimate enemies at a distance. They mainly use crit-based equipment to deal as much A.O.E. (area-of-effect) damage while executing Flurry and Multi-Shot.
  • Falconer: Falconer is one of the most unique classes I've seen in any ARPGs. If you choose this class, you need to expect to have your summon (i.e. a falcon, duh) do most of the grunt work for you. Don't get fooled, as your Falcon summons can deal a whole lot of D.O.T. (damage-over-time) in the end game.

Any of the three masteries are very viable in the end game. Choosing one is a matter of playstyle preference.
