MW3 players debate the merits of COD skins in COD

COD now has a CODFish bundle!

Live-service games like Call of Duty constantly release paid cosmetics like operator skins and weapon blueprints; these microtransactions constitute a big part of the game's revenue. Because CoD is a military shooter, players have been debating the relevance of some of these flashy skins in MW3.

While Modern Warfare 3 does get some grounded character skins with military-inspired outfits, you must've noticed a massive surge in extravagant skins like the one shared by user animal-danimal in the Reddit thread above. The uploader is wondering when the developers will stop releasing such "horrible" designs (the one in question here is the new CODFish skin in CoD).

Despite being heavily inspired by realism and military combat, Call of Duty is an arcade shooter with a majority casual player base. Xever_141 astutely commented that because people tend to buy these skins, they keep on dropping such bundles in the store. I agree with this take and so do a lot of other folks.

Others say if a player likes the skin, it's their choice and no one's stopping them from buying it, also noting anyone wearing this shiny skin will stick out and be visible from afar. This makes using the skin disadvantageous, at least for large-scale modes like Warzone. But people are still going to equip it because, as said previously, most players in the game are casuals and don't care much about these elements.

Meanwhile yet others lament the cost of such designs—2,400 CoD Points for one operator skin, two weapon blueprints, and some other minor cosmetics is kind of a high price, especially given there have always been bundles with much better value at the same price.
