Zenless Zone Zero players reflect on what made 1.0 great

ZZZ is love, ZZZ is life.

Zenless Zone Zero 1.1 was released on August 14, 2024, and players have been reflecting on what made 1.0 such an amazing gacha game. 1.1 is, of course, just an update to the game; nothing major is changing, so fans can relax and just enjoy the new content.

I can agree with reddit saying one of the best things about Zenless Zone Zero is that it's very chill compared to the other games that have come out of MiHoYo. With ZZZ, you can go at your own pace, enjoy the game, and not have to worry about constantly teleporting halfway across the map to get to your next objective.

It almost has a cozy vibe to it. I've described it to others as having an aesthetic somewhere around City Pop and Lo-Fi; that kind of aesthetic that mixes bright pops of color with an urban area. There are no gods to fight or giant tasks to undertake, you can just run your store with your sibling and occasionally do some sketchy things for fun. It's very high school protagonist, and I'm here for it.

One of the most prominent points from another player on Reddit is the development of Belle and Wise as characters; none of the other main characters from Genshin or Honkai have anywhere near as much personality as Belle and Wise do. They also speak more than a couple of times throughout the game, and aren't enemies in any way (which, let's face it, has gotten boring in other MiHoYo games).

Something else I'm going to bring up here is the sexualization of the characters. Zenless Zone Zero has significantly LESS sexualization. All of the female characters who wear skirts also wear shorts underneath, and we already know that MiHoYo reduced the... *ahem* jiggle dynamics before the game was fully released for the public.

I was so, so pleased when I saw this. Honestly, gacha games are ridiculous when it comes to this area of design. A select group of fans were disappointed in the censorship, but there are some big legal ramifications if MiHoYo were to change the game's designs.

It's said if Hoyoverse attempts to modify the censored version, they could face regulatory consequences, including the loss of their license and potential penalties. The National Radio and Television Administration has strict control over content distribution in China, and with MiHoYo opting for a 16+ rating, they have to adhere to certain guidelines — including the country's strict censorship regulations.

Moving on, ZZZ is just easy to play. Getting all of your daily rewards is as simple as eating a bowl of noodles and playing a couple of arcade games. You could take photos of cats, too, but that takes more time — as cute as they are. There is nothing difficult or time-consuming about the daily errands that you run as Belle or Wise.

Also, the hacking missions are super fun and I enjoy the puzzle aspect of them! I love open-world games, don't get me wrong, but there's something so repetitive about the other MiHoYo games that I've dropped them all multiple times.

ZZZ is a unique and fun gacha game and doesn't feel like a MiHoYo game, nor is it another reskinned Genshin Impact. It's bright, has cool features, and the siblings aren't trying to kill each other or destroy the world. Win.
