How to get the vault code and open the bank in Dead Rails

Dead Rails is an adventure game where you explore the dystopian world scavenging for valuables and solving puzzles. You may encounter a bank with a locked vault inside at some point in your playthrough. You can unlock the bank vault using a special code; here's how.

How to get the vault code in Dead Rails

During your exploration, keep on the lookout for the bank building as it may spawn along the way. If you do spot it, alight the train and scour the area for any zombies. Take out the threats as you would using your weapons, but look for the zombie with a black top hat. Once you kill this special enemy, it'll drop a note, i.e., the bank combo. Note the sequence down or memorize it and head to the bank.

How to open the bank vault in Dead Rails

Simply enter the bank combo or the vault code into the vault inside the bank building and the safe will unlock. Inside you'll find several gold bars and maybe some other valuables as well. Therefore, the bank vault is a must-visit if you want to stack up on multiple supplies quickly.

Can you open the bank vault in the lobby?

As far as I know, the bank that spawns during a match has a unique code that you must acquire by defeating the top-hat zombie. Therefore, each vault has a different code and you can't input the combo from a previous match in your current deployment. Furthermore, the bank vault that appears in the lobby is inaccessible and doesn't seem to have a code.

While you're searching for the bank during your playthrough, make sure you have the resources to support your endeavor. Carry healing items like Snake Oil and multiple weapons, perhaps a rifle and a shotgun. That's because the bank usually attracts a lot of zombies as it's often located in a town. Moreover, if you're exploring at night, be prepared to encounter the beastly werewolves which are bigger and more powerful creatures. Having said that, you can use their bodies to fuel your train engine. Even after all these hardships a player may face, I suggest going for the bank vault as the loot is rewarding considering the effort put in.
