BG3 Hunt the Devil Sidequest Guide – Karlach or Anders?

Better the devil you know.

In Baldur's Gate 3, you will meet a few companion characters along the way, and some of them will have specific quests. Karlach is one of the playable NPCs you'll befriend, and Hunt the Devil is a quest associated with her. Naturally, you need to know if you can trust this character and let her join the team as a companion. Here's how to complete Hunt the Devil in Baldur's Gate 3.

Where to start Hunt the Devil sidequest in Baldur's Gate 3?

While traveling north from the Blighted Village waypoint, you'll encounter Karlach, and your minds will instantly connect thanks to the Mind Flayer Parasite. Your character and Kalrach each have a parasite in them, and you get to know more about her past after interacting with her. This is where you get the Hunt the Devil quest from Karlach, and you can decide to take her on as a companion.

Kalrach mentions that a group posing as Paladins of Tyr are after her, accusing her of murdering refugees. You will soon encounter them south of the Risen Road waypoint. Check the yellow circle on the map image above to see the precise location of Anders and his troop of Paladins. You need to visit this location and speak with Anders to learn more about the accusations against Karlach.

I would recommend siding with Karlach; this character becomes an invaluable team member and possibly even a romantic interest down the line, just like Astarion, Shadowheart, Gale, and Lae'zel. After speaking with Anders, you can detect that the Paladin is lying and that Kalrach is innocent. This makes it a clear choice to side with Karlach and oppose Anders. If you choose to fight Anders, you'll need to eliminate his allies as well.

On the contrary, if you choose to side with Anders and eliminate Kalrach instead, you will get a rare two-handed sword. Additionally, you won't be able to add Karlach to your party if you side with the Paladins of Tyr. However, you can interrogate Anders and examine the corpse in the room next to his location to sniff out the truth: Anders isn't truly a Paladin anymore, and instead has a pact with Zariel.
