The puzzle with three paintings.

Thorm Mausoleum is one of the most important quest locations in Act Two of Baldur's Gate 3. While searching for that relic everyone's so excited about, you'll inevitably end up at the mausoleum—and the puzzle within. It took some searching, but I've discovered the key to solving this deceptively simple puzzle! Here's everything you need to know to solve the Thorm Mausoleum puzzle.

Where is Thorm Mausoleum in Baldur's Gate 3?

Thorm Mausoleum is on the northeast side of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, pictured above. Head in that direction from Reithwin Town, and you'll find it near the House of Healing at X:-190 Y:111. When you get there, you'll run into the devil Raphael, who will warn you of the dangers waiting inside.

However, you don't need to be on your guard just yet. The mausoleum is devoid of enemies, and you're free to explore as you please. The puzzle itself is located in the back room of the mausoleum. When I first entered this room, I noticed a bunch of disarmed traps on the floor, as if someone had been there before me. This someone is Balthazar, who you'll hear about from his herald at the entrance.

BG3 Thorm Mausoleum Puzzle - Correct Button Order

In the puzzle room, you'll see three paintings on the wall with buttons underneath each one. You need to press these buttons in the correct order in order to progress. The correct order for the Thorm Mausoleum Puzzle in Baldur's Gate 3 is Moonrise Towers, Grief, General. The paintings depict the former glory of Moonrise Towers, Ketheric Thorm grieving the death of his daughter, and his leadership of Shar's forces, respectively.

Once you press each button in the right order, all the paintings will turn blue, and parts of the back wall will lower into the floor. From here, you'll find a sprawling temple to the goddess Shar and undergo her difficult trials.

Thorm Mausoleum Puzzle Mechanics in Baldur's Gate 3

The key to solving the Thorm Mausoleum Puzzle in Baldur's Gate 3 lies in the three Diaries of Ketheric Thorm, which can be found throughout the building. Each details a crucial event in his life, from his time in Moonrise Towers to the death of his daughter, culminating in his position as a general in the Absolute's army. Each painting corresponds to an event mentioned in the diaries; this determines the order. Pressing the buttons in the wrong order will briefly turn the paintings red, and you'll have to start over.

Volume One can be found behind the sarcophagus in the middle room at X:-280 Y:-871. Volume Two is next to a skeleton on the altar in the western room, located at X:-304 Y:-875. Finally, Volume Three is in the east room, lying on the floor in a corner at X:-261 Y:-881.
