Content Warning Steam Deck Guide

First of all, good news: Content Warning works pretty well on Steam Deck. However, since the game is not yet officially Steam Deck verified, you might experience some bumpy monster-recording sessions. Regardless, Content Warning's requirements make it run on almost any configuration. Below are best settings and troubleshooting for running Content Warning on Steam Deck.

Content Warning Steam Deck Best Settings

Content Warning runs smoothly on Steam Deck, but to ensure the best performance that won't drain the battery too fast, there are some tweaks you can do to ensure long-lasting fun while ghost-hunting. These are the optimized in-game settings for Content Warning on Steam Deck:

  • Resolution: 1920x800 (native)
  • Window Mode: Fullscreen
  • VSync: Off - Turning VSync on will slightly drop the FPS
  • Max Framerate: 60 or 90 frames per second for the LCD and OLED Steam Deck, respectively. Limiting the FPS rate is the best way to save power. If battery isn't an issue, uncap the FPS freely.
  • Ambient Occlusion: On
  • Chromatic Aberration: On
  • Shadow Quality: Medium - High-quality shadows aren't necessary, and they can slow the game down.
  • Brightness: Default value of 0.00

With these settings, Content Warning will run smoothly on Steam Deck, with stable 60 to even 90 frames per second. Even if you put all graphic options to the maximum, and fill the server with your crew, the frame count won't drop below 45 fps.

There's another way to meddle with the game's settings. You can change the performance settings in Steam Deck's Performance tab for better frame rate and longer battery life. Here are the Steam Deck's Performance tab settings we recommend:

  • Frame Limit: No change
  • TDP Limit: 10 Watts
  • Enable HDR: Optional
  • GPU Clock: No change
  • Scaling Mode: Auto
  • Scaling Filter: Linear

Content Warning Steam Deck Issues

Content Warning is not Steam Deck verified, so some compatibility issues might ensue. For example, some menu navigation is done via trackpad, which takes some time to get used to. Hopefully, some future update will make the game much more compatible to Steam Deck's controls.

Other significant issue with Content Warning is the game's constant online nature. Yes, you have to be always online to play Content Warning, which might prove to be cumbersome when on the move. Even with Steam support, games that are always online are not ideal to play on handheld systems.
