How to defeat Mantis Shrimp Boss in Dave the Diver

To defeat Mantis Shrimp Boss in Dave the Diver, you must aim for its eyes, which are its weak spot. Your best bet is to wait for an opening where you have a clear shot, as that's the safest time to strike. Because the Mantis Shrimp attacks quite frequently, you should use a hit-and-run strategy to avoid being hit. Speaking of attacks, here are some that you need to watch out for:

  • Ground Pound: The Mantis Shrimp will point to the sea bed ferociously, creating a current that will push you. You must anticipate this move as best as possible to avoid getting pushed onto spikes at the left-hand side of the arena. Don't let yourself get backed into a corner by the Mantis Shrimp because those spikes hurt.
  •  Left-hand Charged Hook: The Mantis Shrimp will charge up its left arm to perform a mean hook. You have approximately six seconds before it releases the punch, creating a current in the process. When you see it attempt this move, you can hoist the chain down to lift a yellow weight for it to punch to block this attack. Doing so will force the Mantis Shrimp into a full crouch, leaving it open to further attacks.
  • Jab: The Mantis Shrimp throws jabs from the semi-crouch stance, meaning its gloves are right up to its face. Such attacks come with little warning, so you must position yourself directly over or below the mantis. It can hit you from a 90-degree angle coming from the front. You should get the hang of this soon after you engage it. Just keep your positioning in mind when the Mantis Shrimp goes into a semi-crouch stance.

You must pace yourself during the fight and be careful not to overextend by attacking the Mantis Shrimp. I was constantly conscious of my oxygen supply, so I tried finishing the fight quickly, only to get knocked out. To not repeat the same mistake I did, play this fight as a war of attrition and remember to take additional O2 from the storage at the bottom of the arena. There is a surplus of ammunition, too. You will have an easier time defeating the Mantis Shrimp if you upgrade your diving gear, which should be easy if you know how to make money fast in Dave the Diver.
