In short, the Cascade Point perk boosts a weapon's fire rate temporarily, making it quite powerful for taking down enemies with a lot of health points. The use of Cascade Point is intended to allow you to use a secondary weapon or a sidearm to eliminate smaller mobs before using your main weapon to take down a larger target.

The perk is quite powerful, so good that it does not come without controversy, as it is typical for Destiny 2. On April 10, 2024, Bungie disabled Cascade Point due to a bug that allowed players to swap out Cascade Point for another perk, resulting in a permanent boost of fire.
