It wouldn't be a new expansion in Destiny 2 if there wasn't a raid coming with it. The raid accompanying the Lightfall expansion is called Root of Nightmares. It's been teased with an ominous description: "Ferried from an unknown time and place, a haunting presence has been detected. We must now confront the ancient threat growing at our doorstep."
When does the new raid come out Destiny 2 Lightfall
The Root of Nightmares raid will become available on March 10, 2023, at reset (11am ET). Contest Mode will be enabled for 48 hours. Contest Mode essentially caps all players to 20 Power beneath the recommendation for each encounter. This means that players will have 10 days to reach the new Power cap. Note that the Seasonal Artifact Power level doesn't contribute to this either.

The previous raid was a reprised Destiny raid called King's Fall. The last entirely new raid was Vow of the Disciple, which means that players haven't seen fresh raid content in over a year. As for what to expect, we have little to no idea. The image accompanying the announcement showed a floral area. The only faction that we've encountered capable of time travel has been the Vex. That would track as the Vex are going to be one of the primary factions Guardians are facing off against in Lightfall.
