Destiny 2 Targeting Mods & Aim Assist Explained

Bend it like Bungie.

Destiny 2 has stayed at the top of the most-played lists thanks in part to its constant content updates. This is great for players but can be overwhelming when it comes to the huge range of items, add-ons, and mods you get to choose from as you improve your character and upgrade your gear. So, if you’re in need of some more information on Destiny 2 targeting mods and Aim Assist, you’ll find them explained below.

What does Aim Assist do in Destiny 2?

Aim assist is a hidden weapons stat that helps players hit their target more often by allowing a larger area of error when targeting. Essentially, the more Aim Assist you have, the more your bullets will bend toward your target after firing. Not only does this make you more likely to land hits, it makes chest hits more likely to hit the head. Every weapon has a base level of Aim Assist, which will then be affected by zoom and the weapon’s effective range. But the biggest effect on your Aim Assist can be found in adding Targeting mods.

How do Targeting Mods work in Destiny 2?

The legendary Targeting Adjuster is a targeting mod that increases a weapon’s Aim Assist. These Aim Assist bonus effects will stack but offer diminishing returns. Targeting Adjuster will give a weapon +5 Aim Assist. Other targeting mods that add aim assist include Sprint Grip (for targeting on the move), Freehand, and Icarus (both popular with snipers). Some see aim assist as essentially cheating, but if you choose extra accuracy as your mod of choice, you’ll be losing out on something else, so it should balance out. For example, if you have a weapon with strong recoil you’re struggling with, you may instead want to lean toward mods offering Counterbalance.
