If you enjoyed the races in Dragon Age: Inquisition, you'll be happy to know that the Elf, Human, Dwarf, and Qunari options are back in Dragon Age: Veilguard. Alongside races, you will also be able to choose from one of six factions.
The faction you choose will affect some of the story that you experience in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. As confirmed by the list of factions available on BioWare's official Discord channel, the six factions that you can choose from in The Veilguard are:
- Grey Wardens
- Veil Jumpers
- Lords of Fortune
- Shadow Dragons
- Mournwatch
- Antivan Crows
Some of these factions call back to Dragon Age: Origins, which is sure to delight fans of the series who enjoyed learning about the Wardens and the Crows. There was also plenty of mention of the Grey Wardens in Dragon Age: Inquisition, thanks to Blackwall, but the other factions have never been mentioned in the previous three games.
The Shadow Dragons are referred to several times in the gameplay reveal that was posted on BioWare's Dragon Age YouTube channel, but that was because the player chose Shadow Dragons as Rook's faction.
The faction you link Rook to will change how the other characters refer to you and your recruitment of their forces at the beginning of the game. Varric talks a lot about Rook being from the Shadow Dragons in The Veilguard, so these lines are sure to change depending on what each player decides to set as their faction.
The four new factions can be found in Northern Thedas, which players of the series haven't had the chance to explore much of yet. In the first three games of the series, we've been firmly planted in Ferelden and Kirkwall, as well as southern regions such as Orlais and Tevinter. Inquisition allowed us to explore the map more, but the introduction of these Northern factions will hopefully open up the rest of the map.
There isn't much information about each of the factions at the time, but players are excited to see two factions from Dragon Age: Origins returning to the series. Only time will tell how each of these factions will affect our characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
