Your base in Dragon Age Veilguard will have a kitchen your companions can use

I was not ready for the utter joy of learning about kitchen interactions.

Fans of the Dragon Age series have a lot to be excited about with the upcoming release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. For instance, the Lighthouse, which serves as the headquarters for the Veilguard. This cozy area can be found inside the Fade — although, it was formerly Solas' base of operations.

While many fans are eager to explore the location and interact with their companions, recent comments from the game’s creative director, John Epler, hint at even more immersive experiences awaiting players than they've seen in past Dragon Age games.

During a recent discussion on BioWare's Discord group, Epler teased, “Not going to get into specifics on interactables, but there is more to do in The Lighthouse than conversations with companions. The Lighthouse does have a kitchen, and your companions acknowledge it/use it both narratively and ambiently. Some maybe better than others."

This comment has fans excited, especially about what kind of culinary escapades might await, and the kinds of interactions they might see in the kitchen of The Lighthouse.

DA players have taken to Reddit with these details. One user speculated that Lucanis Dellamorte, the Master Assassin from the Antivan Crows, might also be the group’s chef. "[Spent] a month undercover as cook or [something] and now can whip out a perfect omelet in record time," they joked.

Another fan added credibility to the argument, commenting, "It's been confirmed Lucanis is a good cook and is addicted to caffeine. I'm expecting mostly simple but super tasty dishes his night to cook, but everyone is too afraid to eat it because it might be poisoned, so it's served from one serving dish and no one eats till he's already tucked in. Probably makes the best coffee in the group because he takes his caffeine fix seriously."

Lucanis' skill was made known at the Voice Over Talent Panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 — which featured the voices of Neve, Harding, Lucanis, and Emmrich (Jessica Clark, Ali Hillis, Zach Mendez, and Nick Boraine, alongside John Epler and Ashley Barlow). There it was revealed that Lucanis is, indeed, a proficient cook.

Personally, I can't wait to walk into The Lighthouse’s cozy kitchen and watch Lucanis try to sway the other companions into eating a "perfectly safe" meal. I always enjoyed the feeling that you got playing chess with Cullen in Skyhold, or getting cutscenes with other companions as you advanced in the game. The more you talk to them and see them acting like real people, the better the gameplay is. Dragon Age players want something as immersive as possible, and it seems like BioWare has that in hand for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
