Dragon Quest Monsters – Release Date, Gameplay, Trailer, & More!

Dragon Quest has been a long-running series for Square Enix, releasing many titles over the years. The newest entry, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was announced during the June 2023 Nintendo Direct. This announcement gives us lots of helpful information to dissect and break down for fans.

Does Dragon Quest Monsters have an official release date?

Release dates aren't always consistent with when an announcement trailer releases. Sometimes, the game will come out in the next few months. For others, the release date is years away. Announced during the June 2023 Nintendo Direct, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince falls more on the soon end of things. Dragon Quest Monsters will be released on December 1, 2023.

What platforms will Dragon Quest Monsters be on?

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince has only been announced to be available on Nintendo Switch. This could change in the future, but even the Square Enix official site only lists Nintendo Switch for Dragon Quest Monsters. In the past, some Dragon Quest games have been released with PlayStation, but this has not been confirmed for this entry in the franchise.

What is Dragon Quest Monsters about?

As the trailer shows, the Demon Realm called Nadiria is the central setting for the game. Psaro (the Dark Prince in question) will be one of the central characters of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, with his trusty follower Rose at his side. Psaro has been cursed in a way that prevents him from harming monsters directly, turning him toward a need for monster-on-monster battles.

The game is a turn-based combat and monster-collecting adventure. Your battle team is comprised of several out of over 500 available monsters that you have found and recruited. Combining monsters via a synthesis system seems to be an exciting and principal aspect of gameplay. Seasons are shown to cycle throughout time in Dragon Quest Monsters, which also changes which monsters are seen across Nadiria.
