The method in which you download this next-gen update depends on which console you're playing the game on. I'll break down the instruction by the console, for your reference.

If you're a PS5 owner and playing the digital version of Fallout 4, head to your digital marketplace and search for Fallout 4. The next-gen update is a separate listing from standard Fallout 4. All you need to do is press download on this separate listing and the update will come down on its own. Once it's done, you're done. Simple as can be.

If you own a PS5 physical copy of Fallout 4, before you can search for it on the digital storefront, you'll need to insert the disk into your console first. After doing this, do the same as mentioned above and search for Fallout 4 in the store. Find the separate listing and download it.

If you have Fallout 4 through PS Plus, currently, there is no way you can get the next-gen update for free. This is likely an oversight/error on Sony's part as players using the Xbox counterpart service, Xbox Game Pass, can download the free next-gen update as active subscribers. We'll keep you updated on the progress on this, as it is likely this will change in the near future.

If you're playing Fallout 4 on the Xbox X|S, then when you turn on your Xbox and attempt to play Fallout 4, it should simply start downloading the next-gen update on its own. If it doesn't, you can force a manual update by selecting Fallout 4 from your library and choosing Manage Games and add-on. From here, select Updates and you should see the next-gen update available to you.

Players using Xbox Game Pass can follow the same instructions above to get the free next-gen update.
