Marriage is finally live in Fields of Mistria, and after two years of Early Access, you can at last settle down with your favorite villager. This guide breaks down how to get married, who you can romance, and how to start a family once the wedding is over. Everything you need is below.

Fields of Mistria has always leaned harder into the life sim side of the cozy farming genre than most of its Stardew Valley-like peers, so romance was always going to be a big deal here. Now that developer NPC Studio has taken the game to its full 1.0 release, the relationship system is complete, with 10-heart events, proposals, weddings, and kids all in play. Here is how to make it happen.

Yes. Getting hitched was the one thing missing throughout Early Access, when relationships capped out at four hearts and stopped short of anything permanent. The 1.0 update lifts that ceiling to 10 hearts and adds the full romance arc on top, so you can now court a villager, propose, throw a wedding, and even raise children together. If you have an old save, your existing friendships carry over, so anyone you were already close with gives you a head start.

There are 12 marriage candidates to choose from, and every one of them is open to you no matter which character you play. Two of them, Caldarus and Seridia, spent Early Access hidden behind question marks on the Steam page and only became fully romanceable at 1.0. Here is the complete lineup and where you will usually run into each one.

How to raise hearts and start dating in Fields of Mistria

Before any wedding bells ring, you need to build up your relationship, and that comes down to hearts. You earn them the same way you always have: stop and chat with your chosen villager every day, and hand them gifts they actually like. Loved gifts move the needle the most, liked gifts help a little, and their birthday is worth a big spike if you can time a favorite present for the day. Not sure what someone wants? Elsie's gossip can point you in the right direction, and our Fields of Mistria gift guide lays out preferences for the whole cast.

As your hearts climb, dating opens up, which is where the romantic route splits off from a simple friendship. Keep in mind you can pursue several villagers at once while you decide who is the one, so there is no harm in playing the field early. Reaching the full 10 hearts is a slog, though, so expect to spend a good while gifting consistently before your crush is ready for a proposal.

How to get married in Fields of Mistria

Once you have a candidate near the top of the heart meter, the road to the altar is short. Here is the whole process, start to finish.

StepWhat to do
1. Reach 10 heartsPick your favorite villager and take them all the way to Heart Level 10 through daily talks, loved gifts, and dates.
2. Grab the ring recipeThe morning after you hit 10 hearts, Elsie mails you a scroll. Read it to learn the Engagement Ring recipe.
3. Craft the Engagement RingHead to a crafting station and make the ring using the recipe you just picked up.
4. See the 10-heart eventTrigger your candidate's big scene and take the keepsake it hands you. You can preview other candidates' 10-heart scenes first if you are still choosing.
5. ProposeGive the finished ring to the villager you have settled on. That is your proposal, and you become engaged.
6. Plan and hold the weddingSort the details with your fiancé in the days beforehand, then enjoy the ceremony and start married life together.

One handy quirk worth knowing: nothing is locked in until you actually hand over the ring. That means you can trigger every candidate's 10-heart event and collect all their keepsakes before you commit to a single one, then propose to whoever wins you over. No regrets, no missed scenes.

How to customize your wedding

Your wedding is not a one-size-fits-all cutscene. In the run-up to the ceremony, your partner talks the arrangements over with you, so you get a say in the little details, like the flowers on display, which cake gets served, and the food set out for guests at the reception. It is a small thing, but it goes a long way toward making the day feel like your own.

How to have children in Fields of Mistria

Starting a family is an optional next chapter once you are married. Some time after the wedding, a short cutscene leaves you holding a Mystical Feather. Whenever you feel ready, and only if you want to, you can use the feather to begin a family planning conversation and welcome a child into your home. There is no timer and no pressure, so it comes down entirely to how you picture your farm life playing out.

Can you date more than one person or get divorced?

You are free to see several villagers at the same time while you make up your mind, and there is no early penalty for keeping your options open. When it comes to actually settling down, though, you can only be married to one person at a time. If you later decide to pull back from a relationship, the break-up letters and the follow-up lines that come with them can be turned off in the options, so you can skip that part if it is not your thing.
