Final Fantasy XIV heavily uses the popular GShade add-on, a plugin that has nothing to do with the game but is developed by an entirely different developer. Since malware has been detected in GShade, a controversy has accused the developers of wrongdoing.Â
How to remove GShade from your PC
Since GShade is no longer receiving updates, it is safe for you to uninstall GShade from your PC. You can uninstall GShade simply by heading to your start menu, typing Add or move programs, and then uninstalling GShade.

Removing files and registry keys
If, for some reason, you can't uninstall GShade the conventional way or want extra ease of mind by removing the core folders and registry keys, you can hold your start menu key with the R key to open Run and delete GShade folders from the following directories:
- %ProgramFiles%\GShade
- %ProgramData%\GShade
- %Public%\GShade Backups
- %Public%\GShade Custom Shaders
You can delete the GShade directory from your registry by opening your start menu, searching for Registry Editor, and then deleting the GShade directory at:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GShade
That's all you need to do to remove GShade from your computer. If you still aren't satisfied, you can simply run a virus scan on your PC through Windows Security.
