Fortnite Gorger in passive mode

How to find and destroy a Gorger in Fortnite

Take on this new boss that spawns randomly on the map in Fortnite!
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The Gorger is kind of a boss unit that has been added to Fortnite in Chapter 2 Season 4. It is related to Galactus and his assault on the planet where Fortnite's island can be found. It spawns randomly on the map every round, and is actually quite difficult to kill if you aren't ready for it. If you can destroy this powerful robotic enemy, then you will get some pretty great rewards for your troubles!

How to Locate a Gorger

To find a Gorger in Fortnite, you will need to look for a red beam that will fire down from the sky and go to the location where that beam has targeted. This happens a minute or two into a match, so the best way to locate one is to stay floating in the air until you see the beam.

If you miss out on the beam, you can always grab a helicopter and fly around and look for it. The areas it spawns in have been narrowed down to seven: Craggy Cliffs, Holly Hedges, Salty Springs, Slurpy Swamp, middle of the larged lake near Misty Meadows, and Retail Row. You can find the exact spots in the map below.

How to Defeat a Gorger

To destroy a Gorger in Fortnite, you will need to have some weaponry available to you. The Gorger won't take damage from guns unless you hit it in two particular areas. These locations open up when the Gorger releases his probes. To get the Gorger to open up, you need to destroy the probes. That's not the only way to damage it, however, if you can get to a downed probe before it explodes, you can use it as a weapon. This weapon appears to have unlimited ammunition and can deal damage to the Gorger body whether it's open or not!

The Gorger will open up as soon as it encounters a player and deploy two probes. You should see the two yellow sections of the Gorger's body available for damage during this time. Gorger's can also be damaged with explosives, so feel free to hurl those at it at anytime.

Once it closes up, you will want to try and destroy the probes as quickly as possible and grab one of their bodies as a weapon. If you are late to it, stay away because it will explode and deal damage to you. If the Gorger has his beam trained on you, then you can either dodge behind some of the environment like a hill or obstacle, or you can build a wall to block the shot.

The best method to beating this thing is grabbing the probe weapon. The probes are easy to destroy with a couple of shots, and you can quickly grab the weapon that will tear up the Gorger for good. These can be fired in two modes, one is just your normal shot that can be done repeatedly. The second way is to hold down the fire button and let out a huge explosive energy bolt that will do big damage but destroy the probe weapon in the process!

The main difficulty of dealing with this enemy is not running into other players. While you get a pretty good reward for killing the thing, it's not going to be worth it if you get eliminated in the process. Only go for the Gorger if you think you can avoid other players in the process. Once you destroy the Gorger, it will drop a ton of loot, one piece of which is the legendary Rocket Launcher! This is currently the only way to get that weapon in the game right now, so it could be worth it if you want to blow some stuff up!
