DATE A LIVE Ren Dystopia Walkthrough - Best answers

The first half an hour of DATE A Live: Ren Dystopia sets the scene of the game and shows you all of the main character's available love interests. There are ten girls that you can date or hang out with in the game, and many of the have some strange reactions to being around the protagonist (mainly their inability to stop blushing or demanding his attention). Not all the girls are spirits: Kotori (Shido's sister) is as human as he is.

The 10th girl is the spirit Ren, whom you meet in a dream-like world during the prologue. Her dialogue lines are a bit off-putting, to say the least. But, she does look imprisoned and hurt, so you can infer that you're probably going to try and rescue her at some point.

The first decision you make in DATE A Live: Ren Dystopia takes place in the school. The twins (Kaguya and Yuzuru) want you to choose between their food offerings. Before you do that, be sure to save the game; you will consistently come back to this exact screen to start every playthrough, so this should be Save One.

Choose Kaguya's pork cutlet sandwich to move on with the conversation.

After that scene wraps up, you'll see a map of the school and the surrounding area. This map leads you to each of the girls in the game, so that you can talk to them and go on dates with them, etc. If you can't see the character that you want to hang out with, they'll be in the Raizen High School part of the map. You can click that to see the rest of the girls' locations.

Do you see how the Shrine is blacked out? That's where you'll eventually find Ren, but you'll need to unlock it first. Scroll down to Ren's section to find out how.

Tohka

To start Tohka's playthrough, choose Raizen High School on the map, and then pick the Classroom where her picture is.

Tohka will ask to have lunch with you, but Origami will interrupt quite abruptly and hand you a lunchbox. Oof, bad timing.

You have lunch together, the day ends, and Tohka tries to ask you on a date. But, once again, she's interrupted. This time, it's Kotori that does it.

Tohka gets to wish for her date when Ren summons you both to the dream world.

After the date, you and Tohka will leave together and she'll ask "How's today's date?"

Your answer should be "Why, is there something wrong?"

After some magical weirdness the next day, you and Tohka will try to stop the twins from fighting. You should select (Leave).

The final decision you need to make comes after Ren sets things to rights and the twins are back to normal. You must select (I'm still not sure) to finish Tohka's good ending route.

Origami

Origami can be found at the Market when you're looking at the map. You'll need to return to the first day again to play through another girl's good ending - this is why I suggested you have the twin's food choice as Save One in your load menu.

You'll go through some of your school day before Ren summons you and Origami into the dream world. Her request is... A bit weird.

Incoming bunny girl outfit. Select (Make her eat carrots.) when you see that screen.

A little later on, you'll need to pick Origami up and she'll complain that she's too heavy. Just put (Try lifting Tohka.) It won't matter much because you stop yourself from saying it (smart choice there, protag).

Almost immediately after that dialogue choice, you get two more options to pick from. Go with (Just stay quiet and carry her home).

The day changes and you go out to meet Origami again. After a short conversation, you'll end up in the park, where you should respond "Don't try it out." so that you can get the good ending for Origami.

Yoshino

Load Save One again. Yoshino is in the Overlook on the map.

You'll go through the same motions of wondering if the trinket box you found under your pillow is Yoshino's, and then meeting Ren with Yoshino in tow.

After a fair bit of story, you'll finally come to your first decision. Yoshino asks for a quick peck on the cheek. Select (Take it seriously.)

Your next answer comes after Yoshino spends the day acting a bit weird. She'll outright ask you, "What did you think of me today?" You should choose the answer (Something felt wrong.)

After the scene with Ren, you'll meet up with Yoshino again. Answer (I prefer the usual Yoshino.)

Kurumi

Kurumi in DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia.

Load Save One. Kurumi is in Tengu Tower.

You won't get your first choice until about 40 minutes into Kurumi's route if you're letting the lines autoplay. The first one is in the classroom during sunset. Choose the top option - Turn around. - it's not nice to ignore someone trying to get your attention, after all.

After your coffee shop date, Kurumi will corner you and ask you to close your eyes. Don't. The choice here is Don't close my eyes.

Once Ren has butted in again, you and Kurumi will go on a walk and she'll ask you if she can resist fate. Respond Don't give up.

She doesn't, and you'll get to enjoy the good ending for Kurumi.

Kotori

I don't think I need to keep telling you but - Load Save One.

Click on Itsuka House on the map, and you'll come face-to-face with Kotori. She's Shido's adoptive sister in the DATE A LIVE series.

Like Kurumi's good ending playthrough, you'll need to sit through around 40 minutes of dialogue before you'll get your first choice. You'll find out that Kotori uses her hair ribbons to express her mood, but she's having trouble today, even though she's changed her ribbons out.

You suggest that she try wearing her hair a different way, and Kotori asks you how it looks. Tell her (It looks great on you.)

After an outing, you'll get sick, and Kotori will come and sit by you. She's super worried. Respond with the option (Rely on her.)

A while later, you'll get in a conversation with Kotori about wishes. Your response should be (I'd have done the same.). Definitely don't tell her she made a mistake or you'll mess up the ending.

That last response leads to the good ending, so you're in the clear.

Kaguya

Load Save One. The twins are a little hard to tell apart on the map, but Kaguya is in the High School, on the Roof. If you're new to the series, Yuzuru has a braid, Kaguya doesn't.

Your first dialogue choice will pop up when Kaguya is wielding two pairs of tongs. Select Kaguya made it possible to start the good ending route.

Kaguya will eventually get into an altercation with a somewhat unhinged Kurumi. When you get the option, choose (Help Kaguya.)

Once everything is back to normal, Kaguya will ask if you had fun over the last two days of her trying to rule the world. Respond (I had fun.)

If you get the good ending, Kaguya will get a little help against Ren during their fight at the end of the playthrough.

Yuzuru

Yuzuru in DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia.

Load Save One. You can meet Yuzuru in the Park.

After the movie, you and Yuzuru go to the park again. She "trips" and lands on top of you. When she tells you that you can look wherever you'd like, your response should be (Avert my eyes.)

A fair bit later, you and Yuzuru will end up sleeping next to each other. Yuruzu starts talking about you, but you should (Pretend to be asleep.)

You'll have another meeting with Ren and then Yuruzu will ask how you felt on your date with her. Say (I felt relieved.)

That answer will push you towards the good ending, and Yuruzu will get a helping hand in her fight.

Miku

Miku and Natsumi hugging in DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Load Save One. To find Miku on the map, select Raizen High School, and then choose the School option.

Your first decision comes when Miku invites Natsumi to hug her. Once Natsumi is all cuddled up, Miku tells you to get in on the hug, too. Your response should, of course, be (Hug.)

Things happen, you turn invisible, but only Miku can't see you. She can still hear your voice, but she gets upset. Time to (Hug Her.) again.

Some anime nonsense happens, you turn into a girl, and Miku gets upset again (this is a theme with her). This time, though, you're going to say (I'm angry.)

This gives Miku the push she needs, evidently, because you'll slip right into the good ending.

Natsumi

Natsumi in DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia.

Load Save One. Natsumi is the last of the nine girls that you can get a good ending for. You can find her in the Neighborhood part of the map.

She tells you she's being chased, but it's just Miku chasing her, so.... Moving on.

During Natsumi's playthrough, she tries to have a little fun with you by threatening to scribble on you with a marker. This is the point where you'll come across your first dialogue option, and you should (Stop her.)

Natsumi throws a bit of a tantrum later after she accidently spoke out loud. You run after her and meet her in her room, where she's buried her head in her bed. Tell her (Not really...) when she asks if you think she's gross.

The final dialogue choice you need to make for Natsumi to secure the good ending is the line (That apology just now was better.) which occurs in the shopping district after speaking to Yoshino.

Natsumi wakes you up the next morning as usual.

Ren

Ren actually has four endings - weird, I know. One normal (there is no good ending for Ren), two bad, and the "true" ending. You cannot get to Ren's route until you have completed the good ending for at least one of the other girls.

This time, instead of loading up the first save file so that you start with picking from the twins' food options, you need to start a new game. If you don't, the Shrine will still be locked.

Go through the motions until you're back at school with the twins and pick Yuzuru's fried noodle bread. This should be the first time you're choosing this option when you're in the classroom with them.

When the map loads in this playthrough, you should be able to access the Shrine and there'll be a silhouette of Ren there now.

Ren will be back in her original state - with both eyes covered. It's like you're meeting her for the first time, and, in a way, it is.

A few cutscenes will pass with you talking to various other characters before you return to the Shrine to make a wish.

How to get Ren's normal (good) ending in DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

If you want the normal ending, you need to pick (I want to introduce you to everyone.)

Ren's normal ending is really annoying because it starts out quite sweet and then does a full 180-degree flip. I won't spoil anything for you because it's an ending that you should experience for yourself, but it's equally satisfying and unsatisfying.
