After a long wait, Genesis War has finally had its global release, and players can now use all the pre-registration freebies to roll/reroll for the strongest characters in the game. If you’re having a hard time choosing which characters to go for, invest in, and build your team around, we’ve put together this extensive Genesis War tier list that you can use to learn all about the best (and worst) characters in the game.

S Tier - Best Characters in Genesis War

Erica Myers+ An excellent damage dealer and trapper.
+ Can cause enemies to lose a turn as well as take extra damage for 1 turn if the passive gets triggered.
+ Gains TPs and Crit Chance passively.
+ Ultimate deals massive damage against enemies with Fangs and Talons. This can be especially useful against some of the bosses.
+ Very good late-game scaling.
- Hard to get dupes to level her up. 
Gishne Driford+ Attacks deal damage and apply different debuffs, including defense reduction.
+ Can apply Burn on multiple enemies using an AoE Active skill.
+ Burn deals massive DoT.
+ Whenever a debuff is applied to an enemy by Gishne, he’ll recover his own HP (makes up for his low HP).
+ Very good in all types of team because of his easy passives. 
+ The passive TP generation is helpful.
Beradin+ One of the best Ultimates in the game that can apply multiple debuffs to multiple enemies.
+ Massive Magic Damage output with Active and Ultimate skills.
+ Has good survivability for a ranged character because he gains HP passively.
Landam Kelvins+ Excellent debuffer character that can force enemies to take more Damage and Crit Hits.
+ Ultimate does massive damage and pushes back the targeted enemy (causing extra damage).
+ Can also Stun multiple enemies using the Ultimate, making them unable to use any action.
- Active skill is weaker than all other characters, but you can make up for it by targeting multiple enemies with it. 
Ariana Weaver+ Excellent Legendary Archer character.
+ Constantly increases chances of Crit Hits on designated enemies.
+ Crit Hit and Crit Damage buffs make him well-suited for Crit-based teams.
+ Ultimate is an AoE skill that can create a Flame Zone.
- Low base HP means he struggles with survivability.
Sharn Hoiste+ Can have multiple actions per turn, depending on the HP.
+ Passively steals TP from enemies.
+ Base Crit Rate is low but gains +10% Crit Rate when isolated (no allies within 2 tiles).
+ Gains a massive Crit DMG boost by unleashing an AoE attack with his Ultimate.
Nina Philotes+ One of the best healers in the game right now.
+ Matches and even outshines most of the Legendary healers.
+ Constantly heals allies and removes any debuffs, regardless of their positions on the grid.
+ Build purely as a healer (Sister> Cleric > Cabalist) to get the best performance.
+ Scale her M-ATK for maximum buffs and improve her damage output as well.
Nangcheon+ Has a massive 15% Crit Rate while at 100% HP.
+ Always attacks first when attacked by an enemy. 
+ Heals self when dealing fatal damage to an enemy and when using Ultimate.
+ An excellent mix of Tank x DPS character who can work in all types of teams.

A Tier

Hanzo+ An excellent character with decent stats all-around.
+ Has a good kit that can be handy in both PvE and PvP. The scaling potential is also good.
+ Has plenty of debuffs and handy tricks up his sleeves.
+ Damage output is also good, considering the kit is primarily a utility/debuffer.
- Since he is a Legend, he’s a bit hard to obtain and expensive to upgrade.
Diablo+ Another excellent Mage character that you can build in multiple ways.
+ Has lifesteal abilities and can restore her own HP with nearly every turn.
+ Can grant massive ATK/DMG buffs to allies nearby and also has some healer abilities.
+ Also has Mind Control abilities, allowing you to control enemies for 1 turn.
- Lots of synergies behind the scenes that make him slightly difficult to use effectively as compared to other Mages.
Sara Randgrid+ Has a versatile kit that allows it to function as a DPS or as a Support character.
+ When used as a DPS, she can do very good damage with Crit Hits (has a massive 150% base Crit Damage).
+ Immune to counterattacks and deals increased damage when countering enemy attacks.
+ Ignores enemy Control Zones and can evade enemy attacks as well.
Erich Schultz+ One of the best debuffers in the game right now.
+ Deals decent damage and can also apply debuffs to multiple enemies per attack.
+ The Armor Break passive is especially helpful against enemy tanks.
+ Go the Bishop Knight route to unlock HP and ATK buffs for allies.
May Nautillen+ A slightly difficult character that has massive potential if scaled right.
+ Can ignore and evade enemy attacks and deal massive damage via counters.
+ Nearby enemies also get a damage debuff.
- Base kit is a mix-and-match of different characters
Joan Kartright+ A very strong DPS character that you can get early and start scaling for the late game.
+ Good damage output and excellent HP. Not a glass cannon character.
+ Has multiple evasion passives that further boost survivability.
+ Can also weaken enemy attacks and generate self-shields.
Ende Marbut+ One of the best Rare Tanks in the game.
+ Can reduce enemy Crit Rate and protect allies against incoming damage.
+ Highly effective against enemy characters that have an active Shield effect.
+ Creates Control Zones to restrict enemy movement and protect allies.
+ Decent damage output for a character presented as a pure tank.
Nina Philotes+ Excellent healer character that you can get early and scale as you progress.
+ Matches and even outshines most of the Legendary healers.
+ Constantly heals allies and removes any debuffs, regardless of their positions on the grid.
+ Build purely as a healer (Sister> Cleric > Cabalist) to get the best performance.
+ Scale her M-ATK for maximum buffs and improve her damage output as well.
Kevin Hastings+ A very good Tank that you get for free at the start of the game.
+ Protects allies within 2 tiles by taking 50% of their incoming damage.
+ Buffs his own DEF and HP, and also has Armor Break skills.
- Locked to a tank/support unit build. Won’t offer much damage.
Karls Brandt+ Good DPS to use early-on with decent scaling options. Best used as secondary DPS to trigger his ATK buff.
+ Has a revive passive that basically grants him a second life. Can be game-changer in certain stages, especially against bosses.
+ His Ultimate buffs his DMG and also ignores enemy DEF, making him useful against bosses.
+ Strong against counterattacks. Can ignore or re-counter some of the counterattacks.
Crow+ Good DPS character that deals more damage when HP falls.
+ Can be revived with 100% HP if you defeat the enemy that knocks him down within 3 turns.
+ Freezes enemies for up to 2 turns and deals massive AoE damage with his Ultimate.
Jane Shore+ Excellent base ATK, Range, and Mobility.
+ Very strong against male enemies. Can apply multiple debuffs and deal extra damage against male enemies.
+ Can delay skill usage of enemy characters by inflicting Suppress with the Active skill. 

B Tier

Locarno Stanley+ Decent Tank that you get for free when you start playing the game.
+ Can carry you for most of the early game content so you can build your DPS and healers.
+ Can create Control Zones and Bind enemies.
- Better options are available and will be needed for mid to late-game content.
Durant Rembrandt+ Amazing Tank to use for early to midgame content.
+ Can also Bind enemies (restricting movement completely for a turn)
+ Defensive capabilities increase as you rank up the character
- Zero DPS potential. Do not expect any damage from this character. Use purely as a tank to protect allies and weaken enemies.
Kasim+ Assassin-type character with excellent single-target burst damage.
+ Gains a massive Crit Hit damage against isolated enemies.
+ Excellent for targeting bosses in the backline because of high mobility.
+ Can also ignore obstacles and Control Zones to attack protected enemies.
Iyolin Pandragon+ The best primary DPS unit to use for early and midgame content.
+ You get her for free and can scale her up a lot by claiming all your freebies.
+ Her Unique Passive has plenty of status effects that are easily triggered and deal massive damage using Crit Hits.
- The unit will fall off once you start transitioning from midgame to late-game content.
Sakisi+ A F2P character that you can level up fully with minimal resources.
+ Decent Rogue character to use until you get Hanzo.
+ Excellent mobility, HP, and decent Attack for a Rare character.
+ Good for early to midgame content.
- Performance falls off later on in the game. Do not invest too much and try to get Hanzo as soon as possible.
Haya Belle+ One of the best early-game Mage characters in the game.
+ OP in Fire teams, especially if you get her class to Tier 3 (Flamecaller).
- Easily replaced by other Mages like Diablo.
G.S.+ A versatile character that you can build as a melee debuffer (Ranger Class) or a melee damage dealer (Fighter Class).
+ Allows you to enter enemy control zones (Ranger Class)
+ Can block enemy unit healing, including bosses.
+ Used right, this character can be very helpful against bosses.
- Needs a lot of investment to unlock full potential, regardless of the class you choose.
Ariana Weaver Jr.+ A decent ranged character to use early on.
+ Very good in Crit-based teams because almost all his passives increase Crit Rate/Crit DMG.
+ The ultimate creates a Flame Zone that does AoE damage to all enemies within range.

C Tier

CharactersPros & Cons
Shuri Stamgard+ Decent buffs and status effects on the Unique Passive.
- One of the weakest Legend characters in the game. Low damage with both Active and Ultimate skills.
- Unique Passive is hard to trigger because of her small range.
Iljimae+ Clone Technique is handy for wasting enemy turns.
+ Good movement and Crit Rate buff can be handy against backline enemies.
- Highly situational. Doesn’t offer much if his passive can’t be triggered.
Cameo Beaufort+ Silence passive can prevent enemies from using skills.
+ Active skill is an AoE attack that does DoT.
- Poor scaling and doesn’t work well in teams that don’t have Flame characters.
Rovel Fields- One of the weakest melee characters in Genesis War.
- Has a mix of DPS and Tank abilities, but doesn’t excel at any role.
Ennil Dia- Extremely one-dimensional Healer character.
- You can get better Healers pretty quickly that offer better passives and scaling.

To get more characters in Genesis War, use the Summon Menu. There are multiple summon banners, including Standard Banners and Selection Banners. Selection Banners will allow you to select the character you want to summon at increased summon chances.

How to get Character Weapons in Genesis War?

You can get character weapons as a reward for completing Quests, clearing Story stages, and by using the Summoning Banners for select weapons. 

How to increase my character’s level cap in Genesis War?

Your character’s level is connected to your player level in Genesis War. The higher your player level, the higher your character’s level cap. So, make sure you increase your player’s level so you can continue to level up your characters.
