How to Craft Glass
Keep in mind that the game is still in Early Access, so some features, items, etc. are still missing. What I'm saying here is that you can't technically make Glass in Hytale at the moment, not in the way you are thinking at least. Beautiful glass panes of Minecraft in various colors are but a dream at the moment.
We can expect them to be added later on, but as of right now, the only way you can sort of add glass to your walls is by making windows. Here's how you can do that.
How To Make Windows in Hytale
First, you have to craft the Builder's Workbench and place it. Once you do, go and farm any type of wood that you like. Once you have a large stack, head back to the Builder's Workbench and add it to the menu.
You'll see a selection of building parts which you can craft, including the Windows. As of right now, you can only craft a Simple Wooden Window. Again, we expect this selection to increase majorly with future updates and patches.
How to Make Glass Bottles
If you're familiar with Minecraft, then you'll know you can smelt Sand into Glass in the game. However, when it comes to Hytale, you can currently only make Glass Bottles by smelting Sand. Another difference is that you can't actually farm Sand at riverbanks (instead you'll get sandstone).
Where to Find Sand in Hytale
To find Sand in Hytale, you will have to go towards Badlands, the desert like biome of your map. It's a large sandy yellow area, so it shouldn't be difficult to spot. Bring a Shovel and get ready to dig up some Sand. I'm going to be digging in advance, since there is a hole in my house begging for a beautiful all glass wall.

No, right now you can't make glass in the game. You can only make Windows and Glass Bottles.
If the only ore you are getting is Sandstone, that means you are not looking in the right area. Riverbanks will give you Sandstone and you'll find actual Sand in the desert biome Badlands.
You can smelt Sand in Hytale after you have placed down a Forge.
