Once you’ve crafted the early-game workbenches and armor sets in Hytale, you’ll soon find yourself looking for Cobalt to continue your crafting progression. For that, you’ll have to travel to the ‘coldest’ and ‘hottest’ regions of Orbis. Read on for a detailed Hytale Cobalt Ore locations and farming guide.
Where to Find Cobalt in Hytale
Unlike Iron and Copper, the Cobalt Ore can’t be found naturally in Zone 1 or 2. That’s why, to get Cobalt in Hytale, you’ll have to venture into Zone 3 (Whisperfrost Frontiers) and Zone 4 (Devastated Lands).
Cobalt Ore Locations - Zone 3

In Zone 3, you’ll find a decent amount of Cobalt and Iron at the top of some snowy mountains and in the depths of some snowy caves. While you’re traveling to the snowy mountains, make sure you scout the mountains that don’t have any snow. As I made my way to the biggest snowy mountains, I saw something shiny on one of the mountains and ended up finding a decent Cobalt reserve.
Scraping Cobalt off the mountains is the safer option. But, if you’ve made such a long trip, we suggest you dive into the icy caves and collect as much Cobalt as you can. The grey-ish color of Cobalt does make it a little difficult to spot in dark caves, but you should be fine as long as you keep your torch on.
You’ll also find some submerged caves in Zone 3 and its various areas. These submerged caves are full of Cobalt, but you’ll need diving gear to mine it out.
Here are the locations to visit first when looking for Cobalt in Zone 3:
- The Everfrost
- Frostmarch Tundra
- Boreal Reach
Cobalt Ore Locations - Zone 4

If you want Cobalt readily available almost everywhere, you’ll have to head over to Zone 4, a.k.a, the Devastated Lands. It’s the toughest zone in Hytale, covered in volcanic ash and fire on the surface, but hiding plenty more as you explore its different levels.
You can find plenty of Cobalt ore at the surface levels. Look near bodies of water and lava to find Cobalt, Adamantite, Iron, and even some Gold. The area is full of smaller caves that are easy to navigate and are filled with Cobalt.
If you’re willing to explore the various layers of Zone 4, you’ll find larger reserves of Cobalt and Adamantite, and you might also get some Silver and Gold ores.
Here are the areas to target if you just want to get some Cobalt and get out:
- Cinder Wastes
- Charred Woodlands
Best Cobalt Ore Farming Locations in Hytale

If you want to farm Cobalt quickly without too much interruption from mobs, there are two locations that you should prioritize.
- For Zone 3, explore the submerged caves. You’ll hardly find any mobs, but you’ll be able to collect Cobalt Ores in abundance.
- For Zone 4, move down just one layer to find smaller caves that have ‘less lava,’ and you’ll be able to farm Cobalt easily. You’ll find entrances near small bodies of water. You can also enter these caves from the ocean.
Out of the two, farming the mines and icy tops of Zone 3 is much easier. But make sure you lie low at night, because the entire Zone 3 gets covered by creatures of the Void at night.
Hytale FAQs
No, you don’t need any special pickaxe or hatchet to mine the Cobalt ore in Hytale. You can mine it even with a Crude Pickaxe.
To get Cobalt Ingot in Hytale, you need to smelt Cobalt Ores in the Furnace. Craft a Furnace using the Workbench and get Cobalt Ores from Zone 3 (Snow Biome) and Zone 4 (Lava Biome).
If you're coming from Copper or Iron, Cobalt will feel like a huge upgrade. However, if you already have a Thorium or Adamantite set, use the Cobalt for Workbench upgrades instead.
