How to fix black screen in Manor Lords

If you're facing the dreaded black screen in Manor Lords, the common solution is quite straightforward: aupdate your graphics drivers. We have another fix other than that (which involves tampering with files), so definitely see if it isn't a GPU issue first.

How to update your graphics drivers

If you're playing on a regular PC, you most likely have one of these three graphics cards: Nvidia, AMD, or Intel. Here's how to update all of them:

Each of these utilities will automatically update your graphics drivers to the latest version, even if you have an older version of the GPU drivers installed on your PC. Once you're done, be sure to restart your PC for these changes to take effect.

If you aren't sure which graphics driver you have, you can find out by opening the start menu and typing dxdiag, where you'll see a small cross icon. Once you open it, click the display tabs to see which graphics card your PC ha.

Fixing Manor Lords black screen with .ini files

If your graphics drivers are up to date and your game is still facing issues, this is most likely due to the game settings, specifically anti-aliasing and resolution settings.

Since you are unable to adjust the in-game settings because of the crashing, you can modify the game's .ini files where all your settings are saved. You can find this file in:

  • C:\Users\YourPC\AppData\Local\ManorLords\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Here, you can edit the Engline.ini to disable various settings to your personal preference. You can locate the anti-aliasing settings in this file to disable them by putting a zero on the end: r.PostProcessAAQuality=0 and r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=0. I also suggest playing around with motion blur and other extra settings such as vignette to better tailor your gameplay to your taste.

I also recommend is to add your monitor's native resolution to the game's settings. You can do this by going into the Settings.ini file and adding r.setres=1920x1080w at the bottom. If your resolution is different from mine, you can swap it out for yours.
