Does Mario Party Superstars have local Multiplayer?

Mario Party for friends!

Playing against each other on the same couch is a time-honored tradition with Mario Party, and does the franchise's latest entry keep this tradition? The simple answer is yes—Mario Party Superstars does have local multiplayer. That means you and some of your friends can get together and play Superstars in the same room without relying on an internet connection.

While most gamers would assume that local multiplayer will always be an option in a co-op game by default, that hasn't always been the case. A lot of triple-A shooter games like Halo are having difficulties in supporting local co-op on modern consoles. Sharing a screen with more than one player causes too many technical hurdles for some big companies, including Microsoft. Though many companies are trying to work on ways to get around it, local multiplayer is still not always guaranteed in modern games.

Fortunately for Mario Party Superstars, the game isn't a super graphically advanced game, making the technical problems less of an issue. Taking turns for each player to roll their dice also means players won't ever need to play concurrently until mini-games, meaning that's less of a burden for the console to handle in local games. Like almost all other Mario Party games, there can only be four players for each board game. If there are fewer than four players in-game, the remaining four spots will be filled by a CPU.
