Best build for Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2

Make Harvey pay for his crimes.

Osvald stands head and shoulders above the rest of the cast as the best primary mage in Octopath Traveler 2. With a decent Latent Power and a phenomenal starting class, Osvald can nuke many a boss with magical damage. Given some of the Support Skills in the game, his damage output can be taken to the next level with a couple of good secondary jobs.

How should players build Osvald in Octopath Traveler 2?

To make Osvald into an absolute powerhouse in Octopath Traveler 2, the best thing players can do is give him the secondary job of Arcanist. First of all, this gives Osvald solid coverage (Dagger, Staff, Ice, Fire, Lightning, Dark, and Light.). Secondly, he will be able to replenish some of his SP with the SP Recovery support skill.

The one draw back to Arcanist is that players won't get access to the class until late in the game. For that reason, it's best to give Osvald the Cleric secondary job for a while. Cleric gives him added light damage and heals, but most importantly it offers tons of SP thanks to the Inner Strength support skill (raises max SP by 50). Naturally, as a spellcaster, Osvald does not want to be running out of SP often.

Ideally, by the time he gets Arcanist, his support skills should look like this:

  • Elemental Augmentation
  • Advanced Magic Master
  • Inner Strength
  • SP Recovery

One tip when using Osvald is to make sure to stay stocked up on Inspiriting Plums. Osvald burns through SP quickly, as he very rarely wants to actually use the Staff. Therefore, players can run into some issues if his SP runs out completely.
