How to fix Payday 3 Matchmaking Not Working

Yay! More matchmaking issues!

With so many players loading into Payday 3 at once, you'll probably run into matchmaking issues the first few times you try to play the game. This is bound to happen primarily due to the game's online-only policy, a departure from its predecessors. For a game that's all about co-op play, it's frustrating when you can't find a party. So, is there any way to fix Payday 3's matchmaking woes?

How to fix matchmaking problems in Payday 3

If you're having issues with matchmaking in Payday 3, they are very likely problems on the game server's end, not yours. Payday 3 requires a constant online connection which means it is entirely susceptible to the same sort of problems that often afflict MMORPGs.

Unfortunately, there are no hard fixes to these problems due to the umbrella of problems that poor connectivity can cause at any given moment. More than likely, the myriad of matchmaking issues that you're experiencing will be fixed by the Payday 3 developers, rather than anything you can do yourself. However, there are some basic troubleshooting that you can try that may provide some level of success:

  • Reset your Internet Connection - Sometimes the classic unplug and replug is all you need to fix problems like connectivity. You'd be surprised what the smallest hic-cup in a program and cause at a high level.
  • Restart Steam - As with the above, programs themselves can also have weird hold-ups that prevent things from working as they should. This one is unlikely to fix your problem, but it's worth a shot.
  • Switch to Ethernet/WiFi - If you're on WiFi, try switching to a direct connection and see if anything changes. If you're already using an Ethernet connection, try switching to WiFi for the same effect.

As mentioned earlier, the odds that any of these above solutions will fix your matchmaking problem is low. This is a problem with Payday 3's servers, and it's going to require a solution from them to see any real tangible improvement. Patience is, unfortunately, a requirement in this age of gaming, as more and more titles go the online-only route.
