How to beat Gym Leader Kofu in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Sadly, Kofu is less forgetful with Pokémon matchups than his wallet.

Kofu is the Gym Leader of Casscarafa and quite the forgetful one at that. To face him, trainers will need to return his wallet at Porto Marinara as their Gym Test. In battle, Kofu can be quite a nuisance to deal with, but there are plenty of tools out there in both games that can burn through this Gym quickly.

How to beat the Water Gym Leader Kofu in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Kofu's team is basically made up of a couple fast Water-types with a third to punish Grass-types that try to solo his Gym. Here is a full breakdown of his team:

  • Veluza - Level 29
  • Wugtrio - Level 29
  • Crabominable - Level 30

For this battle, Electric-types tend to do better than Grass-types. This is because not only can Crabominable hit Grass-types with a hard Slam, but Veluza knows Pluck, a Flying-type move. Electric Pokémon, on the other hand, don't really have much to worry about other than Mud Slap from Wugtrio (which barely does any damage).

Trainers also should have access to some strong Electric-types before they face Kofu. Pawmi is a great early game encounter, and Wattrel and Tadbulb are pretty easy to come across in the initial areas of South Province and West Province.

Another tip is to try and use some of the faster Electric-types against Crabominable. Regardless of the type matchup, any Pokémon that doesn't resist can easily fall prey to a Terra boosted Crabhammer from Crabominable. Fortunately, Crabominable has middling Speed, so it's easy to attack first and out damage it before it can start picking up KOs.
