Where to find the Ancient Depth Serpent in Fisch

The Ancient Depth Serpent is a fish of Exotic rarity that was introduced to Fisch with The Depths expansion. This huge fish isn't always available, so players must know how and when to catch it. The first step to catching this sea monster is learning the Ancient Depth Serpent's location in Fisch.

The Ancient Depth Serpent can only be caught in The Depths area. To get to The Depths, you need to use a Strange Whirlpool to get to Vertigo, then fish up a huge red and black key known as The Depths Key. Once you have this key, you can open the door by the red crystals in Vertigo that lead to The Depths.

If you don't have a Fish Radar, I highly recommend buying one before your journey to Vertigo. Fish Radars can be purchased from the rocks next to the Shipwright on Moosewood. They cost 8,000C$ and can tell you where to catch certain fish when you're close enough to their spawning area.

The Ancient Depth Serpent has no spawn point, making it difficult to find. However, from my experience of seeing it spawn several times, it always spawns to the right of the Merchant, along the path with the two stone piers. It could spawn next to one of the piers at coordinates (940, 735, 1405) or further along past the piers at coordinates (1085, 740, 1445).

The reason I keep talking about fish spawning is that you can't just go and fish in these areas to catch it. The Ancient Depth Serpent only spawns during the Absolute Darkness weather event. You'll be able to tell when this happens because The Depths become so dark that you can't see anything and you'll hear a blaring noise come from the game.

To find the Ancient Depth Serpent's spawn point when this happens, enable your Fish Radar and look for either a glowing, golden square in the water, or the title "Ancient Depth Serpent" in rainbow-colored text on your screen. When you see either, walk towards that area until you find the highlighted square.

The Ancient Depth Serpent inflicts a -60% progress speed decrease on you when you're trying to catch it. You'll need to combat this by using a good fishing rod and the appropriate bait. The best rods to use to catch the Ancient Depth Serpent are:

  • The Steady Rod - The 30% Resilience stat and max weight of 10,000kg from the Steady Rod should help you fight against the Ancient Depth Serpent while catching it and ensure that you can reel in any size fish.
  • The Rod of the Depths - This rod is made for reeling in the fish in The Depths. It's expensive, and annoying to get, but its stats are incredibly overpowered.
  • The Sunken Rod - With 150% Luck and 0.15 Control, not only will you be able to hook an Ancient Depth Serpent, but you'll have a better chance of keeping up with it.
