The best units in the Anime Expeditions Update 5 meta combine reliable damage with useful passives, control, or team buffs. Rankings account for both independent performance and the partners needed to reach a unit’s ceiling. Units within the same tier are not ordered from strongest to weakest; the two chart columns show their main role.
Hallows Eve makes team interactions especially important: Impaler consumes Bleed, First Blade directly supports 8th Sword, and Dead Melody and Princess reward Seafarer setups. These are the main factors behind the rankings:
- Stats – Damage, SPA, Range, Critical Chance, and Critical Damage, considered alongside upgrade cost and placement limit. Preview stats are not max-upgrade comparisons.
- Status Effects – Many units apply status effects with their attacks, such as Burn, Freeze, Slow, and Bleed. These can help you clear waves faster, stall enemies, and control the battlefield more effectively.
- Attack Type – There are currently three damage types in the game: Physical, Magical, and Psychic.
- Element – Most units have an Element, such as Storm, Flame, Gale, Hydro, Dark, Neutral, Terra, Light, and Plasma.
- Passives – Most units in the upper tiers of our Anime Expeditions Tier List have several powerful passive abilities that can make all the difference in the right team comp.

Anime Expeditions A Tier Units
A Tier contains strong units whose value depends more on partners, map layout, or specific enemy mechanics. Princess rewards Seafarer setups and dense waves; Wild Card excels in Fire DoT teams. Eclipse Hunter has complete upgrade data, but his strongest value still depends on the Selected partner and stage. Devil remains an A Tier burn specialist while its full upgrade ceiling is unconfirmed.

Anime Expeditions B Tier Units
B Tier remains useful rather than obsolete: these units can clear hard content, cover specific elements, or anchor specialized Burn, stall, boss, and progression setups. In the current meta, they stay below A and S because their best results depend more heavily on map shape, partner units, enemy types, long ramp, or lower-value niches.

RELATED: Anime Expeditions Codes
Those are the main strengths and trade-offs behind the S, A, and B tiers. C and D units remain in the chart for early progression, but the higher tiers offer stronger long-term damage, control, or support once you can obtain and build them.

Best Anime Expeditions Team Comps
These six-unit cores remain useful in Update 5. Hallows Eve adds alternatives for Bleed damage, mapwide burst, cleansing, and Seafarer control; use the replacement notes to adapt a roster to the units you own. New-unit substitutions are preliminary while full upgrade lines remain unconfirmed.
| Team Comp / Units | Evaluation |
|---|---|
All-Purpose Meta CoreA flexible shell for waves and bosses, with global support, control, burst, and a dedicated damage amplifier. Sovereign (Djinn) Boss carry / Freeze Lightning God (Overcharged) Electricity carry / Stun 5th God Hand Full AoE / Distortion Silver Falcon Team damage / War Chest Kitsune Damage / attack speed Puppet (Telekinetic) Boss mark / Rewind Core plan: Place Silver Falcon early enough for War Chest to benefit from kills, build Lightning God’s Voltage through the waves, and save Puppet Mark plus Kitsune’s active for Sovereign’s boss damage window. |
|
Anti-Shield and Burn LockdownCrow remains the shield specialist, backed by piercing Burn, zone control, and long windows to finish exposed enemies. Crow (Black Fire) Primary shield breaker Head Captain (Char) Shield-piercing Burn Ignition Commander (Betrayal) Heat / Stun / Rewind Fallen Angel (Holy) Time Stop / spreading Burn Silver Falcon Team damage / yen Puppet (Telekinetic) Strongest-target mark / Rewind Core plan: Overlap Crow and Head Captain on the shielded choke. Put Ignition Commander’s inner zone where enemies enter it, then use Puppet’s Rewind to give dangerous survivors another pass. |
|
Flame and Fire DoT TeamA focused Burn lineup that uses Alchemy Brothers to expand damaging DoT stacks alongside Scorched and Wild Card’s Fire DoT effects. CC Crimson Captain (Moon) Flame carry / Scorched Wild Card (Ace) Fire DoT ticks / refresh Head Captain (Char) Stacking Burn / traps Fallen Angel (Holy) Time Stop / Burn spread Devil (Hero) Enhanced Burn / detonation Alchemy Brothers (Truth) DoT stack cap / Magical buff Core plan: Overlap Crimson Captain, Alchemy Brothers, and the Fire DoT units at one choke. This lineup has five damaging DoT units and one non-DoT unit, so Alchemist’s Judgement should take its DoT-majority branch; verify that team classification in game. |
|
Subject 8 and Iron Wolf Physical AssaultA Physical-centered core that combines Iron Wolf’s Bleed conversion with Subject 8’s ramping AoE and team damage buff. Iron Wolf (Struggler) Bleed / True Damage / Full AoE Subject 8 (Monster) AoE / Physical buff / Dismembered Eclipse Hunter (Savior) Selected partner / resistance Silver Falcon Global damage / yen Kitsune Speed / damage active Puppet (Telekinetic) Boss mark / Rewind Core plan: Set Iron Wolf as Eclipse Hunter’s Selected partner, then position Subject 8 where enemies can trigger Colossal Roar without relying on its short preview range. Align Puppet Mark and Kitsune’s active for durable targets. |
|
Infinite and High-Wave ScalingA long-run lineup that converts kills, repeated attacks, Voltage, and Fated Meter into late-wave pressure. 8th Sword (Berserk) Permanent kill scaling Elf Mage (Unleashed) Arcane follow-up scaling Lightning God (Overcharged) Voltage / Electricity Stun 5th God Hand Fated Meter / Full AoE Silver Falcon Damage / War Chest Ramen Guy Early farm Core plan: Use Ramen Guy for opening cash, place Silver Falcon before the larger kill waves, and let 8th Sword claim takedowns while Lightning God and 5th God Hand build their meters. |
|
Iron Wolf Bleed and Status CoreA mixed status lineup that lets Iron Wolf convert Bleed while Prodigy benefits from the surrounding status pressure. Iron Wolf (Struggler) Bleed converter / Full AoE Jester Flexible attacks / Rifle Bleed Prodigy (Rage) Status-scaling boss damage Head Captain (Char) Stacking Burn Kitsune Local speed / damage Puppet (Telekinetic) Strongest-target mark Core plan: Place Iron Wolf over the main choke for reliable Bleed. Use Head Captain’s Burn for consistent status coverage; Jester’s Rifle mode adds more Bleed when rolled, but the build does not require that roll. |
|
Lockdown and RecoveryLayered zone control with a one-copy Distortion anchor, clone follow-ups, and a way to clear an allied Stun. 5th God Hand Distortion / Full AoE Ignition Commander (Betrayal) Inner-zone Stun / Rewind Fallen Angel (Holy) Automatic Time Stop Water Sage (Founder) Clones / allied Stun cleanse Rainman (Forecast) Frog Storm / Poison traps Water Mage (Scholar) Freeze / Ice walls Core plan: Place 5th God Hand at the central choke and spread Ignition Commander and Water Sage across the remaining lanes. Let the automatic stops cycle; use Rainman’s active and Water Mage’s walls where a leak actually develops. |
|
No-Secret Magical ProgressionA no-Secret Magical lineup that uses Alchemy Brothers’ mark cycle and the non-DoT-majority branch alongside established weather and control units. Rainman (Forecast) Weather damage / Frog Storm Water Mage (Scholar) Freeze / Ice walls Elf Mage (Unleashed) Arcane follow-ups / AoE Ignition Commander (Betrayal) Heat / Stun / Rewind Alchemy Brothers (Truth) Magical buff / marks / Slow Ramen Guy Economy Core plan: Use Ramen Guy to establish Rainman or Water Mage, then put Alchemy Brothers in range of the Magical carries. Its preview range is 10, so choose a shared choke before investing in its mark cycle. |
|
No-Secret Physical ProgressionA Physical-focused Mythic core combining Time Stop, Burn, a growing storm, and Waterfall control. Head Captain (Char) Stacking Burn / traps Sand (Alligator) Growing storm / charged control Sharkfang (Abyssal) Waterfall / Slow / Rewind Fallen Angel (Holy) Time Stop / Burn spread The Hero Physical damage buff Ramen Guy Economy Core plan: Overlap Head Captain, Sand, and Sharkfang around a long choke. The Hero buffs the Physical attackers, while Fallen Angel’s Time Stop gives their damage zones extra time against packed waves. |
