How to defeat Warden Casteglia in Rogue Trader

Heresy! Heresy all around!

Bosses always scare me in Rogue Trader, and Warden Casteglia was especially tricky since he appears to be immortal, but even immortality can be a relative thing in Warhammer 40k. Here is how to defeat Warden Casteglia in Rogue Trader.

Warden Casteglia Boss Guide - Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader

At the start of the boss encounter with Warden Casteglia in Rogue Trader, spread your party to engage the Alien Lens while fighting off the Warden and his troops at the same time. The Warden will appear invulnerable because, after each death, he will be resurrected by Alien Lens artifacts.

Each time you kill Warden Casteglia, he will respawn next to one of the surviving Alien Lenses. Each Lens has a single charge, which is spent by respawning the Warden. So, in theory, you would have to kill Warden Casteglia five times to use up all the charges. The strategy I used was to destroy one lens per turn while fighting off the Warden at the same time. This is the composition I used when fighting him:

Start the fight by having at least three to four of your fighters in a circular area. Get Idira to use Foreboading on your troops if they are close together to provide additional dodge, since Warden Casteglia is a powerful ranged fighter capable of unleashing a deadly onslaught of rapid fire. Lastly, get your tank to hold his attention. Abelard would be ideal for this cause, especially if you build him like the proper tank that he is.

To deal with Warden Casteglia's traitor guardsmen, I picked them off one by one, not paying too much attention, as they primarily serve as a distraction. Try to position your party by having the tank draw all attention to himself and use Idira's abilities to boost him. The rest of your fighters should have to move too much, but that will depend on Warden Casteglia's positioning in the arena.
