How to complete the Thief of Joy quest in Winter Ember

In Winter Ember, you play as Arthur Artorias on a quest to seek vengeance for the murder of his family. Along the way, you will encounter various side quests that can earn you some extra gold or items. One of these is the A Thief of Joy quest. This may leave you wondering how to complete the Thief of Joy quest in Winter Ember.

This is a side quest in Winter Ember. You help a thief named Kasey break out of a cage. You need to find a lever for the switch and a key for the cage, both in different compounds. The lever is inside a safe you need to find the combination for, and the key is locked in an office. Completing this quest and freeing Kasey leads to another side quest.

Thief of Joy quest guide in Winter Ember

You must speak with Kasey to start this quest, who you can find in South Anargal in a cage. He will ask you to free him, but it requires a lever for the switch and a key for the cage. Both are located in different areas.

Where to find the lever

The lever can be found in a safe in one of the Iron Dove compounds. You will need to get the code to open the safe. This area is crawling with enemies, and there are also the occasional bear traps. Dispatch the enemies or avoid them with stealth.

Where to find the safe

The safe is found on the second level of this area in the bathroom. There are a couple of enemies standing between you and the safe, so kill or knock them out to make your job easier. We have marked this location with a red star.

Where to find the code

The code for the safe can be found in one of the other buildings to the right of the building containing the safe. The code to open the safe in the Thief of Joy quest is 572. We have marked this location with a yellow star.

Where to find the key in Winter Ember

The key to Kasey's cage can be found at the other Iron Dove compound. This one has fewer enemies than the location where the lever is found. Go to the second floor of this building, and you will find two doors. One is locked but can be picked, while the other is not locked.

The unlocked door leads to a room where you can find the key to the second locked door. If you prefer to try your skills, you can simply pick the lock instead. You will find the key here. There is also a partial code of 57 on the blackboard. We have marked this location with a red star.

Once you have the lever and key, return to Kasey and set him free. Instead of a reward, he will enlist your help to track down his brother, promising you a reward after finding him.
