You will need to recruit Master Chef Caulie to come and live in the village to get your fishing rod. You’ll find Caulie in the southwest of the map in the Valley of Flowers. Just follow the path into the small settlement in the corner next to the lake.

You must defeat a level 1 Demon, Terrigaze, to save her. It will appear when you enter the village and has around 1k HP but as long as you have a full team of good yaolings it’s a relatively simple battle. Once you have killed Terrigaze, Master Chef Caulie will reward you with the Fishing Rod. It does not appear in your inventory, but you can now use fishing spots.

Fishing spots can be found all over the map and always look the same, being represented by a large blue fish hanging from a fish rack (see above). In my experience, the location of the fishing spot doesn’t affect what you can catch. However, using different bait will attract different fish and other rewards.

Where to find Fishing Bait & all Fishing Bait Types in Yaoling Mythical Journey

Bait can be bought from traders in any village, with the bait sold being representative of the level of mobs in the area. Once Chu-Chu has settled in the village, you can buy random bait from her. The different types of fishing bait are:

  • Herb Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 5-10.
  • Egg Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 11-15.
  • Tofu Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 15-20.
  • Sweet ‘n’ Sour Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 21-24.
  • Kernel Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 25-30.
  • Marinade Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 31-40.
  • Pine Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 41-50.
  • Wheatbud Bait: Attracts Yaolings of levels 31-40.

When you reach a fishing post sign, you’ll get the option to fish. Select your bait, and then click ‘fish'. You’ll see two circles (light blue and yellow) with a gauge to the left side. The trick is to repeatedly click the left mouse button — make sure you’re outside the circle area — to expand the circle so that it overlaps the other, which moves randomly. When they’re lined up there will be a visible glow and the gauge will start to fill (see above), but it will drop when you’re not aligned (see below). If you fill the gauge you’ll usually get a random reward.

The reward will usually be resources or a yaoling. Resources will be added to your inventory, while a yaoling will trigger a standard battle. This is the easiest way to capture certain yaolings such as Bubber and Gurglio.
