What Tools & Equipment to Bring For Abyss Miner Old Man Quest
Before starting your descend to Layer 2 in hopes of finding the Old Man and completing his quest, there are a few things that you need. If you go without these tools and equipment, you can't even start the quest, so make sure you have everything with you.
- Rank up to Moon Whistle - Players with lower rank can't talk to the Old Man NPC.
- Get the Xplr. Glove - There's plenty of climbing involved before, during, and after the Old Man quest and you need the stamina and speed boost of the Xplr. Glove.
- Buy the Leather and Hardened Steel Boots -You need the Leather Boots to protect yourself against any fall damage. Also, make sure you bring along at least $24,000 so you can buy the Hardened Steel Boots from the Magma Cave Shop. The quest requires you to go deep inside the Magma Cave and you can only enter and survive those fiery depths with those Boots.
Don't forget to bring along the Rope Gripper and your best Pickaxe/Drill. Once you have these items in your bag, you are now ready to meet the Old Man and complete his quest.
Where is the Old Man in Abyss Miner?
The Old Man is located deep inside the Magma Cave on Layer 2. Follow the direction below to get to his location:
- Go down the rope from the Surface to Green Haven and head to Dzack's Shop in Rooting Ruins.
- Descend down to Arcus Silva using the rope in Dzack's Shop.
- From the drop point, go left towards the waterfall and go straight until you reach Altumhill.
- Enter the Magma Cave and go to the shop to buy Hardened Steel Boots.
- Now, exit the Magma Cave, take a right, and exit through the tiny path.
- You'll see a tree in the middle. Climb up the wall across the tree and go into the tiny entrance.
- Keep climbing until you see waterfalls of magma. You'll soon reach a point where you'll see magma falling down and rocks scattered on the floor.
- From there, you have to climb up the wall and then go right to find the Old Man training in his tiny hideout.
- Interact with him to start his quest.
The Old Man will ask you to find 10 Normal Magma Cores and 5 Unstable Magma Cores. Go back to the point where you climbed up from and mine the rocks there to collect the Normal Magma Cores. To get the Unstable Magma Cores, follow the magma lake deeper into the Magma Cave. Make sure you equip the Hardened Steel Boots at this point so you don't take damage and die.
You'll find a rope that will take you down to a small, dark pocket. Mine the rocks there to collect Unstable Magma Cores. After collecting all 15 Magma Cores, go back and talk to the Old Man again to receive the Chasm Smasher.
Chasm Smasher is a Heavy Pickaxe and does the second-highest damage per second in Abyss Miner, only beaten by the $250,000 Black Steel Shovel. It does lack speed, but excels in every other aspect.
No, Chasm Smasher can not be purchased from any of the Shops. The only way to get Chasm Smasher in Abyss Miner is by completing the Old Man quest in the Magma Cave.
Buy and equip any Glove from the Contraville Shop in Reversal Woods. Press the left Ctrl button on PC to start climbing. Make sure to recover stamina while climbing or you will fall down.
