What is Hytale?

Hytale is a recently announced game that looks to be a mix of Minecraft and Terraria. You have a lot of the crafting, building, and overall look from Minecraft, but the game also appears to have a larger focus on combat and fighting against monsters and bosses like Terraria. They also prioritize the ability to create items and a whole lot of other customization with tools specifically made for the game. Here's the trailer and a good description of the game:

Hytale combines the scope of a sandbox with the depth of a roleplaying game, immersing players in a procedurally generated world where teetering towers and deep dungeons promise rich rewards throughout their adventures. Hytale supports everything from block-by-block construction to scripting and minigame creation, delivered using easy to use and powerful tools.

What Platforms Will Hytale Be On?

Hytale is currently planned for only PC and Mac. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like a console version will be out soon enough, but if it follows the path of Minecraft you shouldn't be too worried. If Hytale succeeds on a large scale, I would expect to see them expand into consoles and mobile. Here's what they had to say on their FAQ:

Hytale will launch for PC and Mac, with the capacity to run game servers on Linux. We’ll explore the possibility of releasing the game on other platforms during development, but for now our focus is on PC and Mac.

Hytale Beta Release Date

If you are hoping to participate in the beta soon, unfortunately you are going to be a disappointed. We don't currently have date for the beta or a release date for the actual game. The game was just announced in December 2018, so while the trailer shows that the game could be pretty far along, it's likely we're pretty far out from the beta and release. Here's the official word on the release date from the website:

This date is still to be confirmed. We’re eager to get it into the hands of players but we want to make sure we do so at a time that makes sense. We want to be confident that we deliver a first impression worthy of player expectations as well as our own ambitions. Rest assured that we are ramping up production to deliver the game to you as fast as we’re able while also meeting these standards.
