1. Simple Starter Pen

We always have to start somewhere. This is why this starter Sniffer pen utilizes only stone and wood, which are always available wherever you begin your new world. It's pretty easy to make even in Survival mode, as to be able to make stone bricks, you're going to need a singular ingot of iron to craft the stonecutter. You will also need some iron nuggets to craft lanterns and hang them around the place. The contrasting wood tones, Oak and Spruce in our example, can be provided by whichever biomes you're able to extract wood from. Use the ones closest or travel a little to find your desired shades of wood! Keep track of blocks used in this build to easily gather what you need.

  • Cobblestone and Cobblestone Stairs
  • Mossy Cobblestone and Mossy Cobblestone Stairs
  • Stone Bricks and Stone Brick Stairs
  • Mossy Stone Bricks and Mossy Stone Brick Stairs
  • Oak Log and Stripped Oak Log
  • Oak Planks and Oak Stairs
  • Oak Fence and Oak Fence Gate
  • Oak Leaves
  • Spruce Door and Spruce Trapdoor
  • Oak Trapdoor
  • Spruce Shelf
  • Oak Hanging Sign

2. Cherry Blossom Japanese Sanctuary

If you're a fan of both rare biomes with pink trees and Japanese-style shrines, it's all a matter of shaping up the perfect courtyard for your Sniffers. While the pink bark itself doesn't fit the theme unless you're going for all-cherry soft aesthetics, the red Nether bricks will fit just right with some of the regular stone and wood textures. We recommend spruce as your wood of choice, if available, for its cool tones and how well it complements the red bricks. Depending on which blocks you decide to apply to your build, it may be more difficult to replicate all of this in Survival mode.

  • Cobblestone and Cobblestone Wall
  • Stone Bricks and Stone Brick Wall
  • Mossy Stone Bricks and Mossy Stone Stair
  • Spruce Log, Spruce Planks, Spruce Fence and Spruce Shelf
  • Red Nether Bricks, Red Nether Brick Slab, and Red Nether Brick Wall
  • Decorated Pot and Flower Pot
  • Lantern and Torch
  • Armor Stand and Chainmail Armor
  • Item Frame and Redstone
  • Crimson Fence

3. Underground Habitat

The world is often hard and cold, so sometimes we just want to dig into the mountain and and look through the glass. There's something that spells safety underground for us and our Sniffers, so in this one, we made the indoor habitat that also looks outside from the cliff. We just have to make sure that the grass blocks are well-watered inside. There's a large variety of blocks that you can dig out of the mines or the mountain to decorate your cliffside habitat, but we'll be listing out the ones we used in this Minecraft build below.

  • Gravel
  • Dark Oak Planks
  • Spruce Door
  • Cobblestone and Mossy Cobblestone
  • Stone and Stone Bricks
  • Chain and Lantern
  • Chiseled Tuff and Chiseled Tuff Bricks

4. Ancient City Enclosure

Conquering an Ancient City is a pretty big feat in Survival mode. Whether you've done so, or decided to raid one in Creative, some of the naturally occurring structures in the City are perfectly shaped to be your custom pens for Sniffers. They can thrive just fine underground, and if you're looking to fit the dark style of Ancient City, you may want to opt for Mud blocks as their base instead of regular brown dirt. Just make sure to keep any potential skulk growth in check every now and again!

5. Greenhouse Sniffer Garden

The plants and flowers of Minecraft are more numerous than ever, and are used in many designs to enrich and complement builds. It's no wonder that ideas that revolve around plants themselves are popular! This garden-greenhouse takes your Sniffers into a cozy setting filled with fireflies and spore particles. The options are infinite and you can base your own greenhouse around any plants you like, so we won't be listing any blocks we used. While you're considering ideas for your own, you can inspire yourself from our build that uses plenty of vines, moss, fireflies and glowstone.

6. Sniffer House

Less so a Sniffer habitat, and more a habitat for you in the shape of a sniffer, this house is reserved for the ultimate Sniffer fans. Fret not, even if it looks like a solid block from the outside, the big Sniffer's sides hide stealthily placed windows made of stained glass for cozy and spacious room layout of your own design. If you really wanted, you could also inhabit your dearest Sniffers atop the house. They are unlikely to jump off of their own volition. Due to its peculiar shape and size, this build is less Survival-friendly, and we recommend making it in Creative mode... Or you can simply enter Creative just to make this house for your Survival run. We won't tell on you.

  • Blue Terracotta and Gray Glazed Terracotta
  • Yellow Terracotta and Brown Terracotta
  • Red, Yellow, and Brown Wool
  • Red Concrete and Black Concrete
  • Dark Prismarine and Dark Prismarine Stairs
  • Oxidized Chiseled Copper and Oxidized Copper Grates
  • Oxidized Copper Bars
  • Oxidized Copper Trapdoor
  • Cyan Stained Glass and Green Stained Glass
  • Cyan Banner and Red Banner

7. Steampunk Asylum

Copper was mostly useless in Minecraft for a while after being introduced, but that is ancient history today. With the arrival of many decorative copper blocks through the Trial chambers, a whole new plethora of designs was suddenly on the table. The good thing about red and bronze metallic-looking steampunk aesthetics is that they can fit both indoors and outdoors. For our build we've decided to include them in the former! Here is also a list of blocks needed to recreate this type of Sniffer enclosure. Don't forget to always use the waxed variety of blocks unless you want your copper further going green.

  • Waxed Exposed Copper

8. Chinese Martial Arts Haven

The bamboo groves are always a good place to settle, as they provide the ambience appealing for many players. The Podzol terrain also provides a good native foundation to grow Sniffers. With different stone blocks, well placed waterfalls, and a rooftile-reminiscent pick to enhance your design, you can evoke the surroundings of martial arts movies. Not many artificially added blocks are needed to create this type of build, making it Survival friendly. You can also replace the Prismarine tiles with any other block of your liking. Our design includes these blocks:

  • Stone Bricks and Stone Brick Stairs
  • Mossy Stone Bricks and Mossy Stone Brick Stairs
  • Stone Wall and Mossy Stone Brick Wall
  • Stone and Stone Stairs
  • Chiseled Stone Bricks
  • Cobblestone and Cobblestone Stairs
  • Cobblestone Wall and Mossy Cobblestone Wall
  • Prismarine, Prismarine Stairs, and Prismarine Slab
  • Campfire
  • Lantern

9. Underworld Harbor

Ever since the first variants of fire have been introduced to Minecraft, some of us have been enchanted with the Soul flames. Thankfully, both the Soul Sand and Soul Soil are found easily and in abundance over in the Nether, so builds that are inspired with the vast expanses of land that burn blue are fairly easily replicable in Survival too. And if you're ready to go an extra mile and chisel some Quartz blocks, a really simple and cool underworld-ly theme complete with well known Ionic Greek pillars is at an arm's reach.

  • Chiseled Quartz Block and Quartz Pillar
  • Quartz Bricks
  • Quartz Stairs and Quartz Slab
  • Diorite Wall
  • Pale Oak Door
  • White Stained Glass
  • Oxidized Copper Trapdoor
  • Soul Lantern
  • Warped Roots

10. Prismarine Thermae

Another one for the lovers of indoor Minecraft builds, combined with aesthetics of the Ocean Monument, this hot spring / thermae design is in essence very simple, but is harder to replicate in Survival unless you can rob a said Ocean Monuments dry of blocks. Which is a tall order for most! The teal ambience is complemented by Sea Lanterns, and is very good for preventing your Sniffers from making an escape via water surfaces. The thermae can also easily house and hide your automated farming system. The blocks needed for this design are as such:

  • Prismarine and Prismarine Wall
  • Prismarine Bricks and Prismarine Brick Stairs
  • Dark Prismarine
  • Oxidized Copper Grate and Oxidized Copper Chest
  • Sea Lantern
  • Tube Coral Block, Tube Coral, and Tube Coral Fan in blue variety

Minecraft Sniffer Build FAQ

Q: Can you build these designs in Survival mode?

A: Some of these builds are better suited to Survival plays than others. We recommend checking out the Simple Starter Pen and work from there. Depending on which biome you can find, the Cherry Blossom Japanese Sanctuary and Chinese Martial Arts Haven are leaning a lot into their respective biomes.

Q: Can these builds support automated Sniffer farming?

A: Yes, any one of these builds can be adjusted to house the hidden system of an automated Sniffer farm. It's up to you to pick where you want to deliver their drops.

Q: Are these builds difficult to replicate in-game?

A: With the exception of the Sniffer House, which might take more time to set up and get right, most of these builds can be replicated in your world fairly quickly. You can also just draw inspiration from the block palettes we used!
