Saint Seiya EX Best Teams Guide – F2P, Late Game & More

Make your best Saint Seiya EX team with our help!

While Saint Seiya EX is an RPG auto-battler where you don't directly command your units, other than activating ultimate skills, you'll have to assemble the best possible team with the units at your disposal. Seeing as there are a lot of different characters, all with varying strengths and bonuses with other heroes, this guide is here to help show you some examples of the best teams in the game that you can work toward.

The Best Teams in Saint Seiya EX

There's a lot to consider when forming a team in Saint Seiya EX, including the balance of positions and roles, the bonuses between characters, and how their skills work together. Luckily, the Bonus system naturally draws certain characters to each other, making some pairings more obvious even if you don't have a lot of experience with the game.

When you're just starting, you can pretty much play whichever characters you want, but as you progress, the content gets harder, and you'll have to optimize your teams for late game. In most cases, higher rarity units are stronger than the lower rarity ones, so feel free to swap them in whenever you obtain a new one, while making sure you have a good balance of defensive, supporting, and damaging units, spread out in the different rows. Below you'll find the best teams in the game right now.

The Evil Saga Control Team

This team is built around the titular Evil Saga, a limited unit that has great bonuses with two other characters in this team. The main strength of this team is the constant crowd control inflicted on the enemies, making it hard for them to do anything, while you shower them with sustained damage, destroying them before they ever have a chance to regroup. The team consists of:

  • Embodiment of Evil Saga - The star of the show, dealing both physical and mental damage, which makes him useful against any enemy type. Has a lot of crowd control built into his skills, making it very easy to succeed in your stalling and controlling strategy.
  • Pope Ares - Activates Two Sides of the Same Coin, an amazing bonus with Evil Saga that gives both of them a 15% increase to their control duration. Besides that, he is a great support that can lock down enemies and make them attack each other. Pope Ares also summons Sanctuary Guards and Captains to help tank as a nice bonus.
  • Pisces Aphrodite - Works great in this team due to his skills, applying poison that deals damage over time. A perfect synergy for the other unit skills for stalling the enemies. Pisces Aphrodite acts as a pseudo-support by giving himself and his allies lifesteal, increasing survivability. He has a bonus with Pope Ares that increases their HP and attack.
  • Gemini Saga - Brings more great damage and crowd control to the team. He has an amazing ultimate that he can fire off regularly due to the rage regeneration in his kit. When you activate the Conflict Between Good and Evil bonus with Evil Saga, giving both of them a 20% Skill Speed increase.
  • Aquarius Camus - The true support of this team with ways to heal and shield his allies, while also freezing the enemies and applying Frigid Air to them, decreasing their attack speed. He also has a small bonus with Pisces Aphrodite that increases their HP and attack.

This is my personal favorite team because I love watching them control the battlefield. It's a premium team, but if you like the concept, you can replace the ones you're missing with other lower rarity crowd control characters like Cygnus Hyoga. He works great because of the bonus with Aquarius Camus which unlocks a new ultimate for him.

The Best All-Around Team in Saint Seiya EX

This team centers around Scorpio Milo as the hyper carry, protecting and buffing him so he can destroy enemies while staying safely in the back row. It makes full use of Scorpio Milo's kit, letting him scale up and mitigate RNG that can sometimes make his needles fall short of expectations, so he can shine and show his true potential. It consists of:

  • Scorpio Milo - The ace of the team, dealing insane mental damage and applying Crimson Scar to enemies, making them take additional physical damage. He can also reduce the enemy's attack speed and heal his allies, making the front row characters have an easier time tanking.
  • Aquarius Camus - Activates Spirit Bond, a bonus he shares with Scorpio Milo that gives them a 12% increase to their skill and attack speed. Other than that, he's an amazing support, able to heal and protect his allies while also freezing enemies and reducing their attack speed.
  • Aries Mu - Has a bonus with Scorpio Milo and Leo Aiolia that unlocks a new ultimate which deals tons of damage and knocks them down, while also shielding allies. He's a great support that can further reduce enemies' attack speed, heal allies and cleanse them while doing so, as well as provide shields which prevent them from ever being hurt in the first place.
  • Leo Aiolia - A front row unit that can supplement Scorpio Milo's damage and get in the middle of the fight with some great AoE effects and self-sustain.
  • Taurus Aldebaran - Activates Golden Friends, a bonus with Aries Mu that gives them a 15% increase to shield generation. Other than that, he's a premium tank for this team, knocking enemies away from your damage dealer and supports, while also doing some good damage himself, with great self-sustain to boot.

This is the premium version of the team, but you can mix and match different units to achieve a similar effect. Awaken Shiryu can be a good replacement for Leo Aiolia. You can switch out one of the supports for Cygnus Hyoga and activate the upgraded ultimate for Aquarius Camus. Even your starting character, Pegasus Seiya, can work here as a front row unit. The concept of this team, a hyper carry protected by others, can be applied to many other units, so feel free to experiment with what you have.

The Free to Play DoT Team

This is a budget-friendly team that utilizes the free SSR unit that you get on your second day, Pisces Aphrodite, and goes all in on poison and blood damage over time effects. You can assemble this team at the start of your Saint Seiya EX journey, and is still very good in the late game content as well, while consisting of only one SSR and four SR units. The members of the team are:

  • Pisces Aphrodite - He's the premium poison applier in the game, making him the natural ace of the team. All his damaging skills apply poison, including the basic attack, making it very easy to stack it up and keep it that way, while also debuffing the enemy to take more damage from all sources of poison. Add dealing true damage to the mix and the ability to grant allies lifesteal, and you've got yourself an amazing unit with consistent damage and bonus utility.
  • Phoenix Ikki - A great unit that starts in your back row, but quickly jumps to the furthest enemy and inflicts burn while also crowd controlling them and dealing great instant damage (outside of his damage over time). If he does fall in combat, he can revive himself and punish all enemies around him.
  • Black Phoenix - Works amazingly in this team, as his attack scales up with every enemy that's afflicted with burn. He can apply it himself, but it works even better when someone else does it for him, because his skills gain bonus effects when attacking already burning enemies, making it so he takes full advantage of your team. He also has a bonus with Phoenix Ikki, giving them both increased HP and attack.
  • Guilty - The final part of the burning trio activates Volcano Training, a bonus that gives him, Black Phoenix, and Phoenix Ikki 20% more burn damage. Other than that, he can inflict burn and do true damage to enemies, while also having good self-sustain, making him an essential front row unit for the team.
  • Perseus Algol - He doesn't have any direct interactions with the rest of the team, but he's a solid low rarity tank that you desperately need for all the damage over time you do to take effect. He can petrify enemies, making them stand in place so the poison and burn damage can do its thing.

Besides being easy to assemble, this team is super fun, and I recommend it as your first team, which can either take you to the late game or help you out while you collect the members of a more premium one. All of these units are easy to get and work great together, especially the burning trio, so there aren't really any replacements I can recommend. The best thing you can do later on is replace Perseus Algol with a stronger, higher rarity tank.

Saint Seiya EX Best Teams FAQ

How do I make a team around a specific character I like?

Start by checking what bonuses they have with other characters, since they give you bonus stats and a starting point for team building, especially if they unlock special ultimates. Depending on their class and position on the team, you'll want to pair them with different roles to help them shine.

What's the best way to upgrade my characters?

Leveling them up, promoting them, and upgrading their cloth are the easiest ways to do it, but to maximize their potential, you'll need to collect their coins in order to increase their star level and unlock all skills and their bonus effects.

What's the best banner to pull on?

You have two different recruitment vouchers that you can use on banners. The regular ones can be used on the standard banner, and you get them by playing through the story, leveling up, doing events, etc. The rarer purple limited vouchers are used to obtain the time-limited characters. You get them by spending the blue gems you earn. You can also use the gems to buy pulls for the standard banner, but I strongly advise against it, since you'll eventually get everything from it without buying any extra vouchers.

We hope our Saint Seiya EX Best Teams guide helped you get inspired for your own team building, whether you'll use one of the ones listed here or take their concepts and apply them to the characters you already have.
