Moonlighter 2 Relics Explained

In Moonlighter 2, Relics are items that you find in chests during dungeon runs. The ones that you bring back with you to the town (in your backpack) will then become items that you can sell in your shop for gold. Relics have different prices depending on their rarityquality value, specific conditions, and so on. The higher the value, the more you will earn from them.

Can You Use Relics For Anything Else?

No, in Moonlighter 2, the only role Relics have is to be sold at your shop. They all have specific effects, but those effects apply only to other Relics. They don’t impact combat or any other part of the game. They don’t make your character stronger, and they don’t boost your weapons or gear. Their effects apply exclusively to other Relics in your backpack (or to themselves).

How to Set Price for a Relic

Each Relic starts with an unknown price. You begin by setting a random price and then watching how your customers react. There are four types of reactions, based on the price, and you’ll discover them through trial and error.

  • Extremely satisfied (Cheap) - This reaction means that the price for a Relic is very cheap and you’re underselling it.
  • Happy (Perfect) - This means that the price is fair, and it should be considered the base price for that item.
  • Annoyed (Expensive) - This reaction means the price is slightly high, but the customer will most likely still buy it.
  • Angry (Overpriced) - An Angry reaction means that the price is unacceptable, and customers will not pay for it.

In most cases, you’ll want customers to pay as much as possible for a Relic. However, there are some special conditions to consider, such as the Perk Meter, Tips, Known Customers, and so on.

How Quality Works in Moonlighter 2

Aside from rarity and their unique effects, each Relic has a Quality value, which is a modifier that increases the Relic’s worth, allowing you to earn more Gold. Each point of Quality adds an extra 5% to the price, and this number can increase indefinitely.

The Quality value of a Relic can be changed through various interactions in your backpack, including the effects of other Relics. In general, you’ll want to stack Quality points on higher-rarity Relics, since that will yield more Gold. The higher the base price, the more you’ll benefit from those percentage increases.

Moonlighter 2 Known Customer Explained

A Known Customer is a type of unique customer who brings extra value if you meet their specific requirements. For example, they may look for a Relic at a specific price range (such as Cheap or Fair) or of a specific rarity (like an Epic Relic), and so on. If you satisfy their requests, they will boost your business in various ways. In general, you’ll want to pay extra attention to making sure your Known Customers leave the shop happy; it’s definitely worth your time.

Shop Perks & Perk Meter - How to Earn More Gold in Moonlighter 2

Just like combat perks, Moonlighter 2 Shop perks are passive upgrades that will help you earn as much gold as possible in a single shift. You can unlock them by filling in the Perk Meter during a shift. You do this by selling items at a Cheap or Perfect price. In order to maximize profit, here's how you should approach each shift:

  • Start by selling your low-value Relics at a low (Cheap) price.
  • This will fill your Perk Meter faster, allowing you to unlock Shop perks early.
  • Pick a perk based on your inventory and how it aligns with the remaining Relics.
  • Then start selling your mid-value Relics at a Fair price until you fill the second Perk Meter.
  • Once both of your Shop perks are active, that’s when you should start selling your highest-value items, assuming you’ve picked the right perks to maximize your profit.

Moonlighter 2 Merchant Progression

Once you unlock K33P3R (very early as a part of the story), you’ll want to start working on your Merchant Progression. These are unlockable upgrades that improve your shop and help you earn even more Gold. My advice is to unlock the Second Perk Meter upgrade as soon as possible, since it will help you boost your sales.

However, from that point on, I think it’s best to invest your gold into some combat-related upgrades first. In particular, you should unlock upgrades from Eris, such as extra Healing Potions, additional HP, and similar buffs. These will help you earn better Relics and complete more runs, ultimately bringing you more gold in the long run. Only start putting more Gold into other Merchant Progression upgrades once you’re confident you can comfortably clear the first zone.

Decorations and Furniture

Finally, let's talk about Decorations and Furniture for your shop in Moonlighter 2. It's important to note that Decorations are purely cosmetic. You unlock them randomly by giving Blob Vouchers to Scratch. In exchange for 5 Blobs, she'll give you a single decorative item. You'll find these Blob Vouchers as random loot during your runs.

On the other hand, Furniture is various items you can place in the Shop which can have all sorts of effects on your business. You unlock new Furniture pieces by finding recipes for them during your runs through various dimensions. Each dimension has a set number of recipes to unlock. Each piece has a unique effect on your business. For example, the Prestige Display Case gives you an extra 20% off on each.

How to Buy Furniture

Just unlocking Furniture recipes isn’t enough; that only makes them available for purchase. To actually have them as options in your shop, you first need to buy them from The Countess. She’s an NPC in Tresna, and you can find her store in the western part of town. Her shop is called The Comtesse (Homeware), and she sells the items you’ve unlocked via recipes. You buy Furniture pieces from her using Gold and Glass Stones (a material you find randomly during your runs).

And with that, our Moonlighter 2 Shop and Relics guide is completed. We hope this will set you up for efficient business and maximize your profits from selling Relics. And while you're here, make sure to check out our other Moonlighter 2 guides, such as the combat guide and perk guide.
