How to Defeat Spooky Steve in Megabonk

Defeat the ghastly ghost with these builds!

Spooky Steve is the Crypt’s boss, who spawns if you don’t escape the Crypt in time. He has a massive health pool, which makes him the most annoying boss of Megabonk. But if you want to unlock Roberto, you’ll have to defeat him one way or another. This guide shares two builds and plenty of helpful tips that you can follow to cheese and defeat Spooky Steve in Megabonk.

How to Beat Spooky Steve in Megabonk

Spooky Steve only spawns in the Crypt, which is a closed area of the Graveyard Map. When you start in the Graveyard map, you’ll spawn in the First Crypt. While finding the exit, you can pick up some free items from the various chests. However, make sure you escape before Spooky Steve spawns because you don’t want to face him at the start of your run.

Instead, if you want to kill Spooky Steve, you need to get out of the first Crypt, get stronger, and then re-enter the Crypt to fight Spooky Steve.

As mentioned before, Spooky Steve spawns with a massive health pool (340.3 Ud, to be exact). He also does massive damage and can easily one-shot you if you’re not prepared. So, to defeat Spooky Steve, you have to increase your damage output, stun/freeze him as much as possible, and ensure your own survivability.

Here are two builds that you can replicate to kill Spooky Steve in Megabonk.

Build 1 - Megachad’s Flex-ability

Megachad’s high survivability, thanks to Flex and his high base HP, makes him a good choice for killing Spooky Steve. However, you’ll need to grab the following Weapons, Tomes, and Items to increase his attack speed and damage, and add some stun.

WeaponsTomesItems
Aura
Dexecutioner
Frostwalker
Black Hole
Cooldown Tome
XP Tome
Duration Tome
Size Tome
Boss Buster
Ice Crystal
Moldy Cheese
Bob
Oats
Demonic Soul
Sucky Magnet
Soul Harvester

How It Works: The main goal of this build is to make Megachad nearly invincible by flexing every Spooky Steve hit. To cover for Flex’s cooldown, you’ll use Ice Crystals and Frostwalker's freeze passive. And while he’s busy unfreezing himself and trying to land a hit, Dexecutioner will take chunks off of his HP with Execute.

Once this build is in full flow, you’ll just have to wait him out and make sure he doesn’t push you towards a wall or corner you.

Cooldown and XP Tome are crucial for obvious reasons, but Duration Tome is very important to reduce Flex’s cooldown and increase the freeze time of both Ice Crystal and Frostwalker. Pick that up as soon as possible and level it up to at least 10.

You can see this build in action in Suremesh’s video about unlocking Roberto in Megabonk.

Build 2 - Athena’s Thorns

If you’re struggling to defeat Spooky Steve with the Megachad build suggested above, try it with Athena. The core principle stays the same- stun Spooky Steve as many times as possible, tank his occasional hit, and deal massive damage.

The added damage dealt by Thorns is a huge plus and makes the fight shorter. However, getting this build with Athena is slightly difficult because of her slow start. Once you get out of the first Crypt, here are the Weapons, Tomes, and Items you should try to get.

WeaponsTomesItems
Aegis
Dexecutioner
Frostwalker
Black Hole
Cooldown Tome
XP Tome
Duration Tome
Size Tome
Spiky Shield
Cursed Doll
Spicy Meatball
Ice Cube
Big Bonk
Lightning Orb
Ice Crystal
Boss Buster

How it Works: This build capitalizes on Aegis’ defensive and offensive abilities and Athena’s high survivability. You’ll see that the Weapons and Tomes are the same as the Megachad build suggested above. Dexecutioner is still doing the heavy-lifting in terms of damage, with Spiky Shield adding a decent boost to Thorns.

Duration Tome is still equally important, but Cooldown Tome takes priority in this build to scale Athena’s damage much quickly. Frostwalker, Ice Cube, and Ice Crystal will still inflict freeze, and Lightning Orb will stun to keep Spooky Steve at bay.

The major difference between the two builds is the speed and skill level. Megachad’s build is slightly more beginner-friendly because of the faster scaling it offers. But finishing off Spooky Steve with this build takes longer, and you have no room for error.

Athena’s build, on the other hand, requires a higher skill level to perfect, but you’ll finish off Spooky Steve a lot more quickly due to the fifth weapon (Thorns/Spiky Shield).

Hopefully, one of these builds will help you defeat Spooky Steve and unlock Roberto in Megabonk.
