When it comes to the best units in the Anime Expeditions Update 2 meta, rankings mostly come down to how much value each unit provides on its own. There are still relatively few units that truly matter right now, and we are, of course, mainly talking about Mythic and Secret units.
There are some synergies already, but not nearly as many as there will be once the game expands further. For now, each unit in my Anime Expeditions Tier List should be evaluated based on several key factors:
- Stats – Core unit stats such as Damage, Attack Speed, Range, Critical Chance, Critical Damage, and more.
- Status Effects – Many units apply status effects with their attacks, such as Burn, Freeze, Slow, and Bleed. These can help you clear waves faster, stall enemies, and control the battlefield more effectively.
- Attack Type – There are currently three damage types in the game: Physical, Magical, and Psychic.
- Element – Most units have an Element, such as Storm, Flame, Gale, Hydro, Dark, Neutral, Terra, Light, and more.
- Passives – Most units in the upper tiers of our Anime Expeditions Tier List have several powerful passive abilities that can make all the difference in the right team comp.

Anime Expeditions A Tier Units
A Tier is the near-meta: units that remain endgame-viable but give up independence, universal coverage, immediate impact, or roster-slot efficiency versus S Tier. Full upgrade data promotes Sharkfang, leaving Sand as the only Update 2 unit here, while several older units can still produce S-level results with the right equipment or composition.

Anime Expeditions B Tier Units
B Tier remains useful rather than obsolete: these units can clear hard content, cover specific elements, or anchor specialized Burn, stall, boss, and progression setups. In the Update 2 meta, they stay below A and S because their best results depend more heavily on map shape, partner units, enemy types, long ramp, or lower-value niches.

RELATED: Anime Expeditions Codes
So there you have it, that's the reasoning behind my S and A tiers in the Anime Expeditions Tier List. There's no point going through the remaining tiers as those units either don't have any passives or are simply not meta-relevant enough for me to take enough time to write about them, to be honest.

Best Anime Expeditions Team Comps
Update 2 raises the ceiling with Sovereign’s exceptional boss damage, Lightning God’s Electricity scaling, and Kitsune’s universal support. Head Captain, Rainman, Sand, Sharkfang, Water Mage, and Jester also open stronger Burn, control, and no-Secret options. The teams below use six distinct units and are built around the demands of each mode.
| Team Comp / Units | Evaluation |
|---|---|
Update 2 Ultimate Meta CoreThe strongest all-purpose endgame shell, combining elite single-target damage, Electricity control, universal amplification, Rewind, and economy. Sovereign (Djinn) Primary boss carry / Freeze Lightning God (Overcharged) Electricity carry / Stun Kitsune Damage / Attack Speed support Shadow (Divine) Global Magical buff / Carry Puppet (Telekinetic) Strongest-target amp / Rewind Ramen Guy Economy / Faster setup Core sequence: Apply Puppet Mark, activate Kitsune and Shadow Realm, then let Sovereign’s boss form and Lightning God’s highest-Voltage attacks land inside the combined damage window. |
|
Update 2 Anti-Shield Strike TeamA no-farm combat lineup that combines Crow’s shield pressure with Head Captain’s piercing Burn and several layers of crowd control. Crow (Black Fire) Primary shield breaker Head Captain (Char) Piercing Burn / Skeleton traps Lightning God (Overcharged) Electricity Stun / Wave clear Water Mage (Scholar) Freeze / Ice Traps Kitsune Universal damage / speed support Puppet (Telekinetic) Strongest-target amp / Rewind Core requirement: Place Crow and Head Captain over the same choke so shielded enemies take both Black Fire pressure and Head Captain’s additional piercing Burn. |
|
Update 2 Stacking Burn EngineA choke-point composition that stacks Burns, amplifies their damage, and repeatedly converts them into clouds, traps, and Hollow follow-up attacks. Head Captain (Char) Stacking Burn / Burn amplifier Sharkfang (Abyssal) Vapor cloud / Slow / Burn Crow (Black Fire) Black Fire / Shield coverage Hollow (Blaze) Physical Burn converter Kitsune Universal damage / speed support Puppet (Telekinetic) Universal amp / Rewind Core requirement: Cluster Head Captain, Sharkfang, and Hollow over one long choke, then place all three Skeleton Traps where enemies will remain inside the vapor cloud and Hollow’s conversion range. |
|
Sovereign Physical Boss AssaultA maximum-pressure boss lineup built around Sovereign, two premium Physical carries, Head Captain’s status engine, and two universal multipliers. Sovereign (Djinn) Primary boss carry / Judgment Prodigy (Rage) Status-scaling boss carry 8th Sword (Berserk) Takedown-scaling carry Head Captain (Char) Burn stacks / Skeleton Traps Kitsune Universal damage / speed support Puppet (Telekinetic) Strongest-target amp / Rewind Damage window: Apply Puppet Mark and Kitsune’s active as the boss enters Sovereign’s range, then trigger Prodigy’s channel and Head Captain’s North attack without wasting their burst on minor adds. |
|
Infinite and High-Wave ScalingA slow-starting late-game team built around four independent scaling systems, universal support, crowd control, and long-run economy. 8th Sword (Berserk) Takedown Damage scaling Elf Mage (Unleashed) Arcane Spell scaling Lightning God (Overcharged) Voltage / Electricity scaling Head Captain (Char) Burn stacks / Trap scaling Kitsune Universal damage / speed support Ramen Guy Long-run economy Win condition: Survive the early investment phase, then let 8th Sword, Elf Mage, Lightning God, and Head Captain build separate permanent, stacking, or repeatable bonuses. |
|
Jester Wildcard Physical CoreA flexible full-combat lineup that turns any Jester roll into useful wave, boss, or off-angle pressure while stacking Physical and universal support. Jester Random-mode primary carry Prodigy (Rage) Status-scaling boss carry Head Captain (Char) Burn stacks / AoE burst The Hero Physical damage buffer Kitsune Universal damage / speed support Puppet (Telekinetic) Universal amp / Rewind Core interaction: The Hero buffs Jester, Prodigy, and Head Captain together, while Kitsune and Puppet add multipliers that remain effective regardless of which Jester mode is rolled. |
|
Update 2 Lockdown ControlA defensive composition that rotates Freeze, Stun, stopping effects, Slow, traps, and Rewind-style actives to maximize effective attack time. Rainman (Forecast) Frog Storm / Poison traps Water Mage (Scholar) Freeze / Scaling Ice Traps Sand (Alligator) Charged Stun / Emergency Slow Sharkfang (Abyssal) Slow / Tidal Wave Rewind Lightning God (Overcharged) Electricity Stun / Main carry Kitsune Universal damage / speed support Ability rule: Stagger the control buttons instead of pressing them together; use Sand’s early-release Slow to save a leak, but hold the full charge when the team can safely earn the longer Stun. |
|
No-Secret Magical ProgressionThe cleanest banner-based Magical progression team, using Update 2 Freeze and weather control with a scaling carry, type buffer, boss amp, and economy. Rainman (Forecast) Weather damage / Frog Storm Water Mage (Scholar) Freeze / Ice Traps Elf Mage (Unleashed) Scaling Full AoE carry Forbidden Teacher Magical damage buffer Puppet (Telekinetic) Universal amp / Rewind Ramen Guy Economy Upgrade order: Establish Water Mage or Rainman as the early control carry, then invest in Forbidden Teacher only after at least two Magical attackers can convert the local buff into meaningful damage. |
|
Update 2 No-Secret Physical ProgressionA practical banner-based lineup that combines Head Captain’s Burn engine, Sand’s charged control, and Sharkfang’s lane pressure with Physical support. Head Captain (Char) Primary carry / Burn engine Sand (Alligator) Growing AoE / Charged control Sharkfang (Abyssal) Slow / Vapor cloud / Rewind The Hero Physical damage buffer Puppet (Telekinetic) Boss amp / Rewind Ramen Guy Economy Core interaction: The Hero buffs all three Update 2 Physical carries, while Sharkfang’s Slow and Tidal Waves keep enemies inside Head Captain’s Burn range, Skeleton Traps, and Sand’s growing storm. |
